Default Battery drains when plugged in while using GPS.

Subject says it all!.......Using GPS in my car with a 2 amp charger and using Co-Pilot (paid version) is this normal? When I left my house this morning I was charged at 100% plugged it in, made a 30 mile trip, when I got to my destination I had 94% battery left.

I read somewhere that you need at least a 2 amp charger to keep it from draining the battery on GPS. I would test charger to make sure its a true 2amp.

It should still charge. You do need a good cable to carry the current, so it may be the cable that is at fault.

Could be the cable.....I know that it is rather long, and noticed when using that cable on the wall charger that it charges slower than the stock cable.....I'll have to try the stock cable in the car.

If the charger is designed to charge Apple devices, it will not charge the Nexus at 2amps
This was discussed here before but I don't have the link

Download Battery Graph and Gauge Battery or similar apps to get better info on what your battery charging is doing. My N7 only charges at 0.8 to 1.0 amps with the charger and wire supplied with it. Haven't gotten around to trying other chargers. Other posts have complained about losing charge when operating with the charger plugged in.

Now that's crazy.....The stock charger for the Nexus 7 is rated at 2 amps...why wouldn't the 2 amp car charger not work?

Something to do with 2 of the usb pins being shorted.
Their is another discussion on the forum. Sorry I don't have a link.
Apparently some usb cables will let it charge at the full 2 amps.

Co-pilot is a battery hog. They say it's been changed to be better on the battery, but it still drains at a high rate.
I've switched to Waze as my fav. nav. ap.

Also, I tried to use the usb cable that came with a mini Jambox speaker with the stock N7 charger and it charged, but very slowly.
I used a USB cable that came with a mouse and it works fast like the original cable, but it is 2x longer.
So length isn't the issue, but some cables work better for some reason.
With most nav aps I've used, a car charger should be hooked up while using it and hope it charges faster than it drains.

Thanks for the info....I have used Waze previously as well, and I like it....my problem with Waze is that you need a data connection, where Co-Pilot downloads the maps so there is no need to have a data connection.

If you can get 30 miles on 6% does that mean you can get 450 miles on 90%? What would the usage be if you didn't have it plugged in to the charger?

Just charged my N7 ( Model ME370T, Build JDQ39) using the folding blade charger which came with my Blackberry Playbook. It charges the PB at 1.8 amps as measured using Battery Guru on my PB. The data wires are shorted. The N7 recognized the charger as charging from ac. The N7 was then charged from 61% to 100 % In 110 minutes as recorded in Battery Graph. Only Battery Graph and Gauge Battery were left running however wifi was on and the unit was shut off by closing the magnetic lid which was then opened to check that the unit was locked but charging. The screen timed out in two minutes and remained off for the rest of the charge except for a peek at the 81% charge level. The calculated charge rate was 0.92 amperes which is the same as I get with the N7 charger which may be compared to a four hour use with shutoff at 5% using about 1.03 amps. There have been so many complaints about slow charging that I wonder whether the problem might be in the battery control circuits for some builds.

It's the chagring port on your phone, trust me!!!! I fought with this for couple of weeks, this charger that charger, killing apps, battery saver apps, bla bla bla. I got a replacement phone and never looked back I can Navigate, have wireless on, Bluetooth, heck every peripheral turned on phone will still charge. I have a goofy cheapo charger from my work 500ma, Duracell charger picked up from gas station 750ma, and the Verizon charger 1A. All of those will charge my replacement phone just fine with everything on. I navigate to a destination and my battery charges the whole time, never runs down. So get a replacement phone, problem solved.
