I just wanted to say i bought a nexus 7 a few months ago in april 2013. I am very disappointed in this product. It is NOT browser friendly at all, and there
are so many things wrong with it that was not told to me before I bought it. Although i searched about it online before i purchased it, there were websites
giving such an impressive notes on it so i bought it...but its a bull****... i am completely distraught with it. The speaker volume for one is too low, and no i dont want to use external speakers cuz i take the nexus outside alot, who wants to have speakers attached when your out and about? The battery drains too fast...I also get alot of errors, and cant delete pics out of the gallery with a click.. It only holds 1 movie, and is supposed to hold at least 4 with the 8gigs. I dont have any apps at all downloaded except the media player to watch a movie with...No free movies as was told on the nexus site. .I have the guide but it does not help much at all. Plus Much more wrong with it. It will not play videos and movies because google chrome browser does not support it..Im just so upset about all this. I watch movies alot. I cant do sh** on this thing.
I cant even send it back for money refund to the company who sold it to me, and when i called asus i told them i just bought it in april 2013 (which is the time i called asus) and asus told me they dont warranty this product. Right....ok whatever.:(

Re: Nexus 7 bull

Hello,

Sorry to hear your not happy with the Google Nexus 7. I have the device myself and find it very enjoyable. I have the WIFI version which limits me for true usability to WIFI accessible areas but in situations where I'm mobile I can always use my phone to WIFI tether so that covers me.

First, not browser friendly? I have good success using Google Chrome or Dolphin Browser with the device.

Speaker volume, I agree isn't great but again for the price compared to other tablets and platforms of tablets its an acceptable tradeoff for me.

Movie storage, you commented about 8 gigs so I assume you got the 8 gb version which isn't very much room to play with. Honestly I'm still scratching my head as to why Google even bothered putting a 8 gb tablet on the market instead of 16 gb as a bare minimum.

You mentioned Google Chrome not playing video's or movies, I'm guessing your referring to flash player supported videos/movies? Flash Player isn't officially supported by AOSP/Android with Jellybean (Android 4.1.x). There are some workarounds using FireFox browser I believe to get Flash player support but I hear it isn't very dependable/useful.

I guess my question is if you knew going into this and were under the impression not to buy it then why did you?

Also you referred to company that sold it not standing behind the product for you, that is unfortunate.

Re: Nexus 7 bull

Sorry to hear about your poor Nexus 7 experience. I had to root mine and reduce the launcher to 3 home screens to make the lag tolerable. At this point you probably bought an 8 gig Nexus 7 for a bit cheaper than when I bought mine at launch (at least I hope you did). The next version is around the corner and I hope they slot in at least an extra gig of ram. If it's absolute intolerable you could cut your losses and sell it to fund the next version or another tablet. Otherwise it sounds like you're going to have reduce your use cases/expectations for what you paid for at this time.

Sorry about your problems. I don't think you did your homework on this one. It's really a pretty good tablet. You may have to investigate the features of a tablet that meets your needs on the next go round.

I moved this thread over to the proper area " Nexus 7 " within a few minutes of it being posted.

We'll call it an honest mistake of posting areas :D

Re: Nexus 7 bull

Sorry to hear you're unhappy w/ your device. I got mine (wireless) last fall. I already had a 10.1" Motorola XYBoard, but the N7 has become a "daily driver" for me. I am waiting for the new one to come out to give me an excuse to go the hspa+ route. For what I do, I don't feel I need lte on this.

Re: Nexus 7 bull

Sorry that you're unhappy with your device. Some thoughts:

The speaker volume for one is too low, and no i dont want to use external speakers cuz i take the nexus outside alot, who wants to have speakers attached when your out and about?

But it's a tablet, not a boombox. Equipping a mobile device with loud speakers means extra battery drain and a higher price.

The battery drains too fast...

Battery drains fast or slow depending on how you tweak your system. If you have everything on full blast (i.e., screen 100%, Wifi and Bluetooth on constantly, all apps constantly syncing in the background), the battery will drain more quickly. Search around this forum or any Android forum, and you'll find a lot of good advice on how to save battery.

I also get alot of errors, and cant delete pics out of the gallery with a click..

If your pic is in the cloud, you can't delete it from the gallery app. Think of it as an insurance policy--if you stored a pic in the cloud, it's probably important to you, and you don't want to accidentally delete it using your tablet. If your pic is locally stored on your device, then you can just long-press it, and then select delete.

It only holds 1 movie, and is supposed to hold at least 4 with the 8gigs.

The memory that all devices are advertised as having refers to their TOTAL memory, not memory available to the user (and yes, this applies to iOS devices as well). Some of that memory has to be taken up by the OS. The 8 GB Nexus 7 has only about 5 GB available to the user, I think. Movie files (especially HD movies) are BIG, so you clearly can't store many movies on an 8 GB device at a time.

No free movies as was told on the nexus site.
It will not play videos and movies because google chrome browser does not support it..Im just so upset about all this. I watch movies alot.

Free movies are usually pirated, which is frowned upon in these circles. If you own DVDs and would like to transfer them to your Nexus 7, you can do it legally by using a desktop program like Tunebite, re-recording the DVD on your computer, then transferring that movie file to your Nexus 7 and watching it with your media player (I suggest MX Player).

Re: Nexus 7 bull

HBO GO and Netflix both work beautifully on the Nexus 7, as does the Play Store (obviously). One trick for the sound is to get a case with a cover (such as the magnetic ones that turn the screen on and off like a boss) and when it is flipped open, it reflects the sound back your direction.

Re: Nexus 7 bull

I've had my 7 for about 3 months now and am still making little discoveries (and finding challenges) compared to my iOS experiences, but that's the learning curve with a new OS. Some freezing - usually on a couple of (major) 3rd Party apps, so I blame them, but otherwise, I'm OK with it. Most of apps I used on my iOS exist in Android, so that wasn't an issue, while I don't have the storage problem you note - I got the 32GB version on sale - but storage is always a consideration when picking up a mobile device, especially those with only built-in storage, as with the 7 or iOS devices.

Paul627g mentioned above alternate browsers and noted the the flash video issue, and I have had great success with the Firefox browser and the download/install of the Flash codec from Adobe's archive (instructions are found elsewhere in this forum or via quick Google), and its nowhere near as geeky to do as one might imagine. That said, I do wish some TV networks (here in Canada) would get around to building their streaming app for Android, as they exist in iOS - as that would simplify things.

Meanwhile, I'll admit that the included Play Movies and Play Music lack, uh....finesse - as Players - and in those cases, I have gone to MX Player PRO and GoneMAD Music.
