Checking email from public places

I will be traveling overseas and, from time to time, will need to check my Yahoo email, via my N7 (which will occasionally function as my GPS, one-device light trip...!) from hotels or other public places.

I am not sure what steps I could take to make this email checking, and the whole machine a bit more secure - no big secrets in there, but you never know what a ill-minded person could do.

Anything I could set up ahead of time, on or off the N7?

switch to Gmail.

All Gmail will now use HTTPS, messages will be encrypted when moving inside Google | Android Central

Interesting.

I think I just installed https-everywhere extension in Firefox. Need to check that.

Would that be adequate?
