Nexus 7 (Shuts Down By Itself, Cannot Complete Factory Reset, Takes 10 Seconds To Turn On Power

Someone please assist me.

So, I haven't had any problems for two years, but now, I plug in my Nexus 7 (2012), let it fully charge, and I can turn it on while plugged in.

Then, it starts up, but, it then shuts down on its own after several minutes of starting up.

It should be fully charged, however, many times, it is not (upon start up).

I also have to hold down the power button for like 10 seconds for it to actually start up.

I try to do a factory reset on it, but when I press "Erase Everything" - nothing happens (and, I believe it is at this point that the device just shuts down).

Other times, I have started it up, with full power, just for it to shutdown on its own, anyway.

What can I do?

It sounds like the battery might be failing. The battery meter itself might be reporting incorrectly, or the battery just discharges so quickly that the meter doesn't have time to update. You can consider replacing the battery--there are numerous YouTube tutoirals on how to pop off the back and replace the battery yourself.

How/why did this happen?

Hardware just fails sometimes. If it's the battery, it's relatively easily replaced. If it's the motherboard, then the device is probably a lost cause.

The only other things to try that I can think of are to boot into Recovery and wipe the cache partition, or boot into Safe Mode.

How easy/hard is it to change the battery?

I'm thinking that might be what it is. How much is a battery?
