OTG and Extension - not working correctly

I have a 2012 Nexus 7 with TIMUR's USBROM kernel. I am using a standard OTG Y splitter cable with power in.
I am trying to use an RTL2832 DVB-T Adapter, which works great when connected directly to the USB port of the Y Cable. I can see its connected, and if I run "WaveSink" software - I can listen to DAB radio without an issue.
Then, if I take a USB Hub (4 port, each one individually switched) and connect that to the end of the Y cable, then connect the DVB-T Adapter to it, Wavesink errors. It shows the USB Hub and the RTL Device in the OTG status, but WaveSink doesnt see it... I am unsure if there is a particular issue with this, is it behaving as it should, or have I missed a step in using a USB hub?
