I've been locked out of my tablet and need to reset

Basically I haven't used my nexus 7 (original) in a while and forgot the pin. No 'forgot password?' is appearing on the lockscreen and even if I hold 'power' and 'up' buttons the usual option to hard reset isn't appearing (i.e it just resets the tablet). I can't just keep trying the pin either it says after 5 attempts to wait 30seconds, then just lets me try again 5 more times and loops. It's running lollipop and would just like a way to hard reset. Thanks

Hello!
I would try logging into your Google Account on a PC and then go to Android Device Manager (https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager). From there you can setup a new password and GPS/Locate your device.
