Is it possible, and worth the trouble, to flash my trusty old 2012 N7 from 4.4.2 to 5.1.1 without loosing root and all the rest?

Many thanks in advance for any help here!

In regards to losing root I am not sure if you will lose it or not, I am new to all this but I can say I have Nexus 2012 that ran very poorly after using the ota updates to get to 5.1.1. It essentially bricked the tablet. What I did find was after deleting everything and unlocking the tablet and using fastboot to flash to 5.1.1 the tablet works. I believe there is an issue with 5.1.1 and the facebook app but my tablet works great now without facebook that is. Hope this helps.

I'd recommend staying on KitKat. The lollipop update has slowed down the performance alot and reduced the battery life. Overall I'd say its not worth it.
