My Nexus thinks it has GPS, but it doesn't
I'm about ready to pull my hair out of this one after this last week.
I bought my 2nd gen N7 about three weeks ago. It came with the JWR66N version and I encountered the issue with the GPS losing lock after about 10 minutes. However, from reading the forum, I saw that an update was rolling out to fix that, so I held on.
I had gone ahead and unlocked and rooted my N7 and put on TWRP with the intention of eventually putting Cyanogen on it. But, I also learned from the forum that this would also make it impossible to accept the OTA update.
I downloaded the files for JSS15Q and manually flashed the update. However, once I did that, even though applications like GPSTest and Maps think the GPS is active, it isn't. I get no indicator in the status bar that the GPS is trying to get a lock. GPS test indicates that the GPS is on, but never ever sees any satelites no matter where I am.
I tried restoring with a JSS15J factory image as well as a JSS15Q factory image. So far, I get the same behavior and I cannot figure what I need to do at this point to get the GPS to engage at all. I've tried turning off and on location access and manually checking and unchecking GPS to no avail.
Any suggestions on what I should try next? I think something must not have flashed correctly originally, but it seems that whatever the file is, I can't get it overwritten with a working copy.
