IMO, yes. Very much so. If you can get a great deal on the 2012 I could see it being closer, but the 2013 is a pretty substantial upgrade and still very affordable.

Are you asking if it is worth buying the 2013 if you already have the 2012? Or buying the 2013 over getting a cheaper 2012?

If the first, then I would say it depends on your use and budget. If the second, then I would recommend spending extra for the 2013.

And I was asking about the first. If it was worth buying the 2013 if I already have the 2012

I still have my 2012 N7 32GB cellular and use it everyday. In my opinion, I am most likely going to hang onto the 2012 for another year and see what happens next year. I would rather spend the money I was going to use to buy the 2013 on the next Nexus phone whenever that comes out.

Plus, I already have an iPad Mini that I use all the time as well.

If you haven't already looked at a new N7, do so and then decide. I had one reserved at MicroCenter a few days after release and went down to look at it and decided it wasn't worth spending almost as what I paid for my 2012 with cellular, I only paid $30 more for it then the new 32GB WiFi is going for and I got a case free with it.

So far, I think it was worthwhile for the better screen. However, it depends on your budget. I gave my 2012 to family but you could sell your old one. If it's in good condition, that should cover about half the cost of a new one, but you're still out of pocket for $100 +/- and only you know what that means to you. For some that's groceries for a week (or two) while for others it's a Saturday night out.

I use my N7 a lot more than my N4, so I decided it was worth upgrading my tablet, while I'm happy to keep this phone for another year or two. (Unless I win an AC contest. :D :D ) Other people might go the other way, and that's OK too.

Then no, unless money is no object. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the 2012, it is just not as good. I have a Galaxy Nexus phone. Like NexusGirlX, I would rather save my money for the next Nexus phone since I use that far more than my tablets.

I would say buying the 2013 is worth it IF:

- You have the funds for it
and one of the following is true
- You have a loved one to pass your 2012 along to
- You're willing to sell the 2012 and can get a reasonable price
- You can use the 2012 for some specific task (ex: one at home, one at the office)
- You have plenty of money & the 2012 sitting unused isn't a big deal

The 2013 has some pretty solid upgrades. For me, Square support was a big deal. The rear camera is very nice to have. It's faster & smoother. The screen is very nice. It's thinner & lighter.

I too passed along my 2012 model to my wife, and picked up the 2013, and am happy that I did. I probably wouldn't have bought it "just because", but can easily see the purchase justified by the above conditions.

It really depends on what you use the tablet FOR. The most noticeable difference between the two is the full 1080p display. So if you watch a lot of videos or gaming, then yes; the 2013's display is FAR superior to the original and worth the expense (IMO).

But If you use it primarily for email, social media, surfing the web, etc, AND money's an issue, then no, it's probably not worth it.

However, I look at it this way... passing down your current tablet to someone as a gift, could actually save you money that you would've had to spend anyway.

They fixed the only major complaint I had with the N7 with the refresh: video out. The G1 is a great device and still runs even the beefiest apps very well but the 2nd gen unit is noticably faster and has an absolutely gorgeous screen.

Regardless, you can't go wrong with this amazing tab.

I was having this same question and being happy with the old nexus decided I could wait. Then last week I won a new 2013 version at a conference. I just got lucky.

Buy the N7(2013). Many (small) improvements make this a winner. Little added expense.
Need a wife to inherit N7(2012) - very expensive!

If you can get the Nexus 7 (2013) then do it - it's a great device and you won't be disappointed considering the device and what you are paying for it. Otherwise, if money is tight and you can find a good deal on the Nexus 7 (2012), then get that.

I bought my 2013 and sold in my 2012 32 gb model to Amazon. They gave me around $100. I wasn't a lot of money, but it was better than letting the 2012 just sit around collecting dust.

But the 2013 model is quite superior to the 2012 model. Considerably faster and the screen is great.

I believe the original poster clarified that he/she already has the 2012 edition. The question is do the improvements justify upgrading and the general consensus is no unless you have money to burn or a good home for the 2012 to go to. :)
