Blue light special? Flashing light?

I just replaced my 2012 N7 with the 2013 edition. But what's the flashing blue LED on the front panel?

WHAT DOES IT MEAN?

I notice there is an option PULSE LIGHT NOTIFICATION which I turned on going through the screens, but I have no idea under what circumstances the light is lit?

Not for charging. Not for all notifications. It seems kind of random, like a "disk activity light" on the older PC's.

Ha, it looks blu-ish to me! Anyhow...is it listed anywhere which apps can turn this light on? I believe GMAIL might be one app but then it came on when I had no new emails, too. Almost like it simply works randomly. Is it intended to work consistently? Dumb question but in all the forums and such I never encountered anyone mentioning this light on the front, not even the tear down hardware videos.

Blue = Facebook notification
White = Gmail Email / Text Message
Purple = Yahoo Email
Green = WhatsApp

I've not noticed other "shades" of colour, but there will be. Also the same colours for other apps I've never used/have installed

Whatsapp seems to display any colour it feels like on a random basis.
i get red, white, and green even though i've specifically set it to ref in the whatsapp settings.
