Default Mirroring screen from nexus 7 to Samsung TV

Other than using HDMI cable, are there any options to do those wirelessly? Basically I want to play YouTube videos, game etc on my TV screen and it's sound system.

For mirroring, you can use Miracast. However, only the 2013 Nexus 7 supports this, the older 2012 version does not.

Just buy a Miracast adapter for your TV. The best one that I tested was the Netgear PTV3000. This allows for full mirroring. The only problem I encountered was lots of lipsynch errors when watching movies. It happens about 15 to 30 minutes into the movie and the lipsynch timing keeps getting worse. I highly suggest using Chromecast if you want to watch long YouTube or Netflix movies. Miracast is excellent for showing pictures and videos that you took on your tablet on your TV. It's also great for browsing web pages. I don't recommend it for games as there is a little lag.

Chromecast is the best option for this IMO. It is simple to use and more and more apps are supporting it an it doesn't have the same problems as straight mirroring does. it is $35 and it is simply amazing if you have an extra HDMI port on your TV.

    • The popular apps support it (like youtube)
    • It doesn't mirror your exact device, so once you set it to play on your TV, you are free to use your device as you want (or turn off the screen to save battery)
    • Any device connected to your wifi network can stream things to Chromecast without any special pairing needed
    • There aren't any audio/video sync issues that mirroring can produce
    • [negative] not all apps support it yet.
    • [negative] the content must exist on the internet. You an play a home movie if it exists online, but if it is JUST on your device, it isn't supported

I have to disagree with some of the above:

    1. Only a half dozen apps support Chromecast (through Android).
    2. If using a computer, only tabs in the Chrome Browser can broadcast to Chromecast. Unfortunately, when using the Chrome browser in Android, this does not work. And the Chrome browser from the computer to Chromecast broadcast is mediocre at best (it's beta). Audio is highly compressed. Lipsynch issues exist. Severe lag.

I really don't believe Chromecast is a competitor to Miracast. I think they compliment each other. Chromecast is perfect if your purpose has a specific app which supports Chromecast - like watching Netflix, Youtube, Google Movies/TV, or listening to Pandora or Google Music. That's pretty much the only use of Chromecast until more apps are developed. On the other hand, Miracast is great for sharing pictures and videos that you took with your Android device and showing it on the TV for everyone to see. Browsing web pages on your Android device and displaying it on the TV. You can also display games you are playing on the TV. None of these can be done with the Chromecast.

Personally, I have both at home (Chromecast and Miracast). They each serve a different purpose.
