Should I still buy the Nexus 7?

Hi everyone, first time posting!
Happy Holidays to everyone. For Christmas, I was thinking of getting the Nexus 7, and although the reviews have been great, it's been several months since the release and I'm wondering if it would just be worth it to either get another tablet or wait for the 2014 Nexus 7. Does it play the most graphically intense games well? Like Deadtrigger 2, Riptide GP2, GTA Vice City, etc.

Thanks for any input

Welcome to Android Central! Short answer: GET IT.

Longer answer: The 2013 N7 is fast fast fast and smooth smooth smooth. The screen is beautiful and super hi-res. Games like Asphalt 7 and GTA III run flawlessly. If you play the waiting game until the next version, you'll then find yourself wondering if you should wait for the next next version.

If you're looking for a tablet in the 7-8" range, I've heard a lot of good things about the new LG G-pad 8.3. Bigger screen, great performance. The main drawback would be that you'd have to wait longer for OS updates, since the Nexus line will almost always get them first. Lots of people love Samsung tablets, but I'm personally not a huge fan of Samsung devices, because I think TouchWiz is a little too bloated with functionality I will likely never use.

It'd help to know what kind of budget you have. If price is not a big sticking point, then the Nexus 7 is a top choice. If your budget is more limited, there are still decent choices, like the Asus MeMO Pad HD7 and the Hisense Sero 7 Pro.

Another one to look at is the LG G Pad 8.3. Just bought it for my daughter and it's really nice

I think I'm going for the Nexus 7. I guess I could get the G-Pad GPE, but it's a little bit expensive for what it is in comparison to the Nexus 7. Thank you so much :)

Depending on locale the LG gpad also has a Google Play edition. Something to consider between the 7 and the 10?

Most on here will talk down the samsung tab 3 8.0, but I love it. Keep in mind I dont play games on it. It is not the most powerful and probably would not run the best games too well, but for general use I find the samsung extras in touchwiz very usefull. Honestly when I use the n7 2013 I feel as if it is a stripped down tablet and is missing features. Just my opinion based on what I use my devices for.

Don't anybody discount the Hisense Sero Pro sold at Walmart for only $129! Plain vanilla 4.2.1! I'll put it up against anything out there!

Its a great tab for 130 but it will likely never get any updates.

I just bought the tab 3 8 and I like it. The sound is incredible, the video is good, the games play well. So, thats a good thing. My nexus 7 kept on having video issues so I returned it.
