Question some pics in my "download" folder became all gray!

at first, i thought that maybe because i tried to delete them with the "photo" app, so they became gray in the "gallery" app.

but today it became really evident that something is wrong with the "download" folder, some of the pictures that i didn't delete became all gray! they are not visible any more.

that is why a few days ago, i asked if someone could spy my pictures thru those chat programs that i installed on the tablet?

has anyone had the same problems, too?

this is just so strange. so far, i only had one random reboot due to camera problem.

    ----

update: i read it online someone had disappearing pictures, etc. they suggested to reboot. so i powered off, and restarted the tablet. then i checked the download folder again, those gray pictures disappeared. but i think that some of my downloaded pictures were deleted by the tablet directly.

In general, I recommend moving pictures from the Downloads folder to your usual Pictures or DCIM folder. Things can sometimes get a little screwy with pics in the Downloads folder, especially if you delete one using a file manager rather than using the actual Downloads "app" to delete it.

I suggest using a file manager app to copy all pics in your Downloads folder to either Pictures or DCIM, then using the Downloads app to delete all of the files there. If there are still greyed out pics there, try going to Settings>Apps>All, selecting Downloads or Download Manager, and clearing cache and clearing data there.

If those downloaded pictures were attached to an email or sms they also might get deleted when you delete the mail/sms.

so are you all saying that those kind of things actually happened to other people as well?

i don't think that it has happened to me before before my 3rd repair.

i was a little paranoid, i thought that maybe someone is trying to spy me through my chat programs or something.

I've never noticed that exact behavior, but I have noticed some some oddness if I delete a file from the Download folder using a file manager rather than the Downloads app.

Like if I download a file, and then use a file manager such as Total Commander to delete the file from the actual "/storage/emulated0/Download" folder, that file will still show up in the Downloads "app" (i.e., the Downloads selection that you see in the App Drawer). However, if I try to open that deleted file in the Downloads app, or otherwise try to manipulate it, I'll get an error, because the actual file has been deleted. That's why I recommend that people delete downloaded files by using the delete function within the Downloads app, not by using a file manager.

I suspect what's happening is that the Downloads app maintains a database of what you've downloaded, which gets updated correctly as long as you use the Downloads app to delete them. But if you circumvent the Downloads app, you might confuse it.

Either that or it points to a thumbnail which you haven't deleted that points to the photo that you did delete. That's why I do as you and use the app to delete things. Sometimes clearing the download cache and/or data fixes it.
