Default Re: Nexus 7 LTE battery life.

Thanks very much, that makes a lot of sense to turn on Airplane mode and use it on WiFi when I have WiFi available (not just at night).

I turned it off about an hour and half back and the percentage has only dropped 2% during that time.

It does bother me a little that I have turn cellular off but that's a very minor irritation for a battery life crazy like me.

As long as I am in an WiFi area, I don't really lose any functionality anyway.

As an aside, I had the HTC Vivid and that definitely had the worst battery life of any other phone I had.

The amount of battery used while idle but with LTE on depends very heavily on the quality of the connection: when the connection is weak, battery use goes up, sometimes dramatically.

True, although I live in a excellent coverage area and all my phones have "told" me so.

I do typically turn my phone off at night when I am home, so don't really what happens then. Its quite possible that there has been some tower work going on after hours and that's messing up my N7.

I have it in the Airplane Mode now so I will see what happens overnight. If it still drops as much, I guess I would need to seriously decide what's more important to me, the battery life or everything else that I like about it.

    Thanks much

Looks like in Airplane mode with WiFi on sure helped.

I took the N7 off the charger at 4:00 PM and now after 5 hrs and 45 mins, I have lost 10%.

The screen on time is 1 hr and 26 mins. So it has been a mix of usage and idle time.

I am very happy with the results overnight:

    Bedtime - 11:40 PM - 76%
    Screen on - 41%
    Tablet Idle - 4%

    Morning - 8:00 AM - 73%
    Screen on - 39%
    Tablet idle - 9%

Total time off the charger - 15 hours and 50 mins
Screen on - 3 hrs and 18 mins.

Thank you very much everyone for all your help, all the suggestions were very helpful.

Looks like this thread is working out for you even though you expect a device that costs half as much to perform as well as your iPad... LOL

I'm thinking you might want to try juice defender or some battery management app to turn off the mobile radio automatically when not in use. Problem solved.

What can I say I have high expectations of all my devices lol.

Thanks, I have been managing turning cellular off manually so far, if it becomes problematic I will certainly look into an app.

Here is the full battery cycle with cellular turned off. It wasn't sitting idle as you can see from the graph.

    This is very encouraging.

    Thanks all

It is, isn't it? I didn't expect this big a jump just turning cellular off.

Still not as good as my iPad Air.

    (Sorry couldn't resist )

Really enjoying my Nexus and having a hard time putting it down.

Here's my battery life update - this was almost solely eBook reading, with the screen at minimum brightness.
I'll post another update that involves heavy CPU/graphics load.

Here's the data when using a CPU/graphics intensive app (ex. XCOM http://market.android.com/details?id...2kgames.xcomeu) - I usually get slightly more Screen On time (between 3-4 hours) than was shown here if I play straight through, but I was interrupted.

This charge cycle was probably typical of how I would be using my N7.

Quite a bit of reading, some web browsing and Google Search, some email, Messenger, Hangouts, a little bit of game.

WiFi on when available with Airplane mode activated and a short spell of LTE otherwise.

I got great battery life imo. I am very happy about this and can now enjoy my tablet without worrying about the battery dying on me prematurely.
