I like this case a lot, esp now seeing how it works as a stand lol. It has that magnet sensor on it. It does the job very well. I suggest this one for the price.

Just ordered one, how much protection (if any) does this offer? Think it will be okay to put in a book bag with some notebooks/textbooks?

Yes. I used one with my iPad and it was great in the bag.

You may receive some cosmetic scratches on it. That's about it. It's a great case. I love it, esp for that price.

I'm used to purchasing cases for $30+ for my phone alone (or $40 for my old iPad's smart cover), so for this case to come out for the Nexus 7 with a built in magnet that turns on the display when you open the cover AND have it be so cheap is downright amazing. Overall, I'm impressed by the quality and features of the case at this price, and not having to worry about dropping my brand new tablet is a huge relief.
