Nexus 7 Scratch Test

It doesn't seem like he's using much pressure to really dig the keys in, plus even normal glass is scratch resistant. My girlfriend's three year old iPod Touch spends all day in her purse, and even though the metal back is completely covered in fine scratches (it literally looks like she sandpapers it), the screen is flawless, and it uses regular glass as far as I know.

The key was not sharp enough for it to scratch and the guy was not applying very much pressure.

Its enough to scratch. I wouldn't do it to mine to find out. I have a iPhone as my work phone and its scratched up all over from just being in my pocket all day with nothing but the phone in it.

Wow, I'm still going to use a screen protector that's anti-glare.

+1

Its just to prove the screen is a little more "resilient" than people have been trying to act like.

I'm still thinking about a screen protector but while I'm making my choice at least I feel a tiny bit safer around keys. :D

Nexus 7 is made of corning glass but google have not said anything about it in official website.
its def scratch resistant..

My concern is not to much on scratches....I mean scratches suck but in my opinion they don't mess with the function of the screen all that much, and sometimes scratches are unavoidable. My big concern is the possibility of the screen cracking from a drop or some other mishap..... now that would really suck!

Did you bother reading Page 100 of the Nexus 7 guidebook? Can't be more official than that.

The manual does not define exactly what type of "Corning scratch resistant glass" it has:

We all know its "scratch resistant Corning glass"! The only question is: Is it Corning scratch resistant GORILLA GLASS or some other "bootleg", weaker type of Corning scratch resistant glass?

Google has not said anything, specifying which type, anywhere in the manual (including "page 100" ) or otherwise.

The assumption (by most folks) is that if it WAS Gorilla Glass, they'd say so! It's obviously NOT, but some other formulation with a level of protection that's less than GG.

Two small hairline scratches on my screen. Dropped the n7 once by accident on a carpet floor... other than that the tablet has never left my house.... no use crying over what has transpired... Just informing our guys about my situation

"built ford tough" is why i have 2 scratches on mine after using it without a screen protector for 5 days. The glass is not like that of my droid bionic. The bionic is in and out of my pocket several times a day, and it hits the rivet of my levi's every time. And i have no screen protector on it. This glass is low quality for sure. Taking it back to Sams on Friday on its one week anniversary. I had it placed into the top Dash cubby hole on a Chevy Cruze i rented and it fell into the same cubby hole (not on the floor or anywhere else), and the latch it fell on is made out of plastic. I did not have any screen protector as it was on order at amazon, since i could not find one locally.

Has anyone who had scratch issues been successful in returning/exchanging the asus nexus 7 tablet? Curious how you won over the Customer Service counter rep.

Thanks!
