Default What's your guess for the price of the Google Nexus Tab?

I've done a fair amount of reading about the new Google Nexus Tab and I sense that Google wants to curb the sales of the Kindle Fire and offer a pure Google Tablet for the same money.

What's your guess for the price of the Google Nexus Tab?

I'v only read rumors about the google tablet but haven't heard anything official. If one happens I'm guessing that it will be $200ish.

    What I'd like to see:
    $200 8GB Wifi
    $250 16GB Wifi
    $300 32GB Wifi or 16GB 3G/4G
    $400 64GB Wifi or 32GB 3G/4G
    $475 64GB 3G/4G.
Add maybe $100 each model for a 1080p screen, a SD slot, GPS, HDMI out, front and rear cameras. Knowing Googles record of nexus devices, it'll probably be a 16 or 32GB option only. With a wifi or wifi plus cellular. If that's the case I'd say $200-$500 could be fair depending of the specs. But what do I know. But i do know that the prices at the top are the prices I'd like to see!

They can't go that high if they want to compete.

What do you mean. A 64GB iPad is $699 Wifi. Or $819 wifi with cellular. That's for a 3rd gen. Apple is selling the iPad 1 refurb 64GB wifi only for $449 and that's two years old!

They need to compete with other android tablets. I have the galaxy tab 2. It's a pretty good tablet & its under $250. There are many other tablets around that price it needs to compete with. The iPad is in a league of its own. No company should bother trying to compete with it.

I tend to agree with this viewpoint.

My bet, FWIW, is Google will launch the new Nexus Tab with at a $199 price point and the price will drop to $149 just before the holidays. Google will likely expand the line with higher end models once they've established themselves in the market.

I think the fact that Google will be using a direct sales model will allow them to offer an impressive tablet at a great price. Google doesn't need to make a dime off of the Nexus Tab to be successful, they just have to generate enough sales volume that Apple's share begins to erode and the mass-public starts to see that there are great alternatives to the iPad.

I also think the execs at Google know that allowing the Kindle Fire to limit the Android experience and lock customers into the Amazon Eco-space isn't good for the future of Android. If the new Nexus Tab takes market share away from the Kindle that's a good thing too.

I think it will be $200. I would love $149 but with the rumored specs I can't see them going that low but would be pleasantly surprised if they did. I will get it either way as I would love a 7" pure google device.

I agree. Google just wants to get more market share and therefor more data they can collect and use to sell off to make profit which is why I can see them going really low on the price. The tablet with good specs will crush the kindle fire and also can be the tablet for those who want a smaller tablet for cheap with good specs and would rather it be from asus than others.

I'm in the exact same camp.

I don't have a tablet yet but almost bought a used Xoom a few months ago. I don't care if the new Nexus Tab is $149 or $199, I'll pull the trigger either way.

That said, if the price was $149 I could see myself buying more than one. I'd love to have one in the living room area so I could check email and surf the web while watching TV and I also think it might be cool to have one for in-car use only. It would be like having a 7" GPS that you could also use to store all of your music.

In fact, I remember reading that the next release of Google Maps will make it easier to use "turn by turn" Navigation without having a data connection. I'd hate to be in Garmin or TomTom's shoes and have to compete against a $149 tablet......

I really just wanted the ASUS 370t to come out with it's original projected specs. At $250 that device would rock.

The rumor is that they are knocking it to $150-$200 and deeply reducing the specs, bummer. I would rather have a strong $250 than a weak $149 tablet.

If it's $200 it going to have some unimpressive hardware. I won't be interested. If it has a quad core 1080p screen for around 400-500 I'll be getting one.

I'm hoping it is going to be good. Google needs to release a great tablet at a good price. They have the money and they would surely make up for the cost through play store purchases

I'm a galaxy tab 10.1 32gig user and got it the first day i could at Fry's for 600 plus. Its hard to beat even today overclocked to 1.4 with pershoots kernel... Now that basically the same quality costs 250 in version 2 I'd hate to see Google not get it right by cheaping out too much on the device... I expect it to have a quality screen, decent cpu... maybe quad even, and definately some external connectivity options such as hdmi/micro sd/micro usb! Seeing how other nexus devices have lacked the sd slots before... we can hope. If it's 250 or even 275 with good specs I'll be happier than if it's 175 and handycapped.

I don't agree at all that no one should bother beating Apple... We've seen it before: Apple ][, Lisa, 128, plus ... up to not long after NeXT was pushed by Jobs after Apple kicked him to the curb Apple almost went under because they cost too much compared to what others could provide. Ironic that Jobs cared enough to save Apple... and he did. I say innovate not legislate... and the bigger they the harder they fall. People forget the other giants that could never lose.

Nothing stays the same forever... even apple started in a garage for goodness sake.

I think Google really only has one chance here to legitimize android tablets, so I'm thinking they might be willing to take a hit on the price to help ensure the continued survival of android powered tablets. Maybe not $150, but I'm envisioning a $179.99 type price.

$200 has been the long rumored price point and i don't see a reason to argue with it. NVIDIA's announced Kai Platform is projected to be at $200 i don't see why the Nexus tablet would go much higher then that.

On a side note, $200 for a quad core is a MUCH better deal then i paid for my Galaxy Tab lol

Although they're just rumors for now, from everything I've read online thus far suggests the Nexus tablet will be in the range of $200-250. Personally, I'm thinking $200 at the lowest. Even the Kindle Fire is $200 (unless it's received a price drop) and that thing is heavily underpowered compared to this tablet (from the what the rumors say). I really don't want to see anything under $200 as I'm afraid we'll start losing some of the really cool features that were present in the MeMo 370T from CES. If it's $200 and has pretty much everything from the MeMo, I'll be very interested. Pure Google a la the Galaxy Nexus and perhaps a slightly thinner shell wouldn't hurt.

I see Google releasing it at the $200 price point. Isn't this the MeMo 370T rebadged anyway? The only difference I see is the probability of it having Jelly Bean as the OS.

I want a tablet to read comic books on, so I don't need something crazy powerful, but I'd like something with a bit of oomph, something quality, and a google tablet would probably convince me. I'd like to see 200 or 250, but I'll probably pick it up for anything under 300, provided it isn't a piece. Over 300, I'll be waiting for a price drop/next generation.

Not necessarily. Everyone's guessing it might be a rebranded MeMo because the 370T was built by ASUS which is the same company Google has partnered with to make its first tablet. Then, the 370T was "suddenly" scrapped by ASUS so some are guessing this is because Google wants to rebrand it as their own. But there's no conclusive evidence that the final hardware is going to be a Google MeMo tablet. It very well could be something different altogether. In my opinion, chances are the final design *might* be something akin to the MeMo. We'll just have to wait and see...
