We won't get the credits until charged/shipped. I presume the movie is pre-loaded, but the CS rep had no idea.

I placed my order for the 8GB version just a little while ago. I think this will be an awesome supplementary device for when I don't want to lug around my laptop or need a bigger screen than my pre-ordered Galaxy S3.

I thought Google doesn't charge until it's ready to be shipped? The full amount has already hit your card?

Regarding the credit, you won't see that until you access the play store from a device identified in the build properties as the nexus 7 tab. Thats speculation but per the ;
"just open the Google Play Store app on your Nexus 7 or visit play.google.com, and start shopping"

When you log into the play store from a device it logs the device maker and model (among other info) which is used to determine application compatibility. The play store keeps a record of any device your google name uses to access the store. You can see them if you use a web browser to go to the play store, my account, settings. My guess is once you hit the play store with a device that identifies it's self as the N7 the credit applies.

Does anyone know if they are putting a hold on the whole amount and charging it when it ships or just the $1 preauth? A lot of companies handle this in different ways

A lot of companies do this when you pre-order something. They do it to verify that the credit card information is valid. The charge won't post until the device is shipped and you will likely see the initial charge drop off and be replaced by a new one come release date.

I got the grey cover too, but am hoping that other manufacturers will offer something a bit better looking. At $20 it wasn't a bad price though.

BTW, no charge to my credit card yet.

Scratch that. After some more reading and thinking, changed to 16 GB.
