What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
Now that some of you have Nexus 7, can you start positing your experience with Nexus 7, what you like and what you dislike about it.
For those who has USB-OTG, can you verify if flash drive would work?
I'm still waiting for mine.

Re: What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
The build quality is great for such a low-priced tablet. I'm really impressed with the screen clarity and rubber (leather-like) backing. Looks very high end in my opinion. Definitely much better construction than my Kindle Fire tablet. Boot up time is quick (less than 60 seconds), and the speed of the screen swipes, etc. is fantastic.
Not having earbuds come with the N7 doesn't bother me, since I already have a good pair. - 07-13-2012, 05:14 PM #5

How would it do as an ereader? The ipad is just too heavy to read with.

Re: What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
I think it is an excellent tablet. The first one for our family, so not much to compare it to, but two small cans so far.
1. Volume seemed low, but so did my GN, so downloading Volume+ already rectified that so the kids can watch movies easily.
2. Unknown if it will be able to connect through HDMI with an adapter yet. Everything I ready said MHL is a no go and I would love a sweet little dock for those pogopins to connect to my TV (Price pending) with a nice little game controller in the future. But for now, we do not know how to connect it to TVs.
Not huge problems at all and for $250 I think that it is still batting 1000. I will be getting a nice case for it once they release a good once that has a magnet for the sensor. - 07-19-2012, 05:37 PM #13
Re: What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
It seemed to fully recharge faster than my Kindle Fire. My wife is a Facebook person, and she likes the Facebook better on the Nexus than on the Fire. I, too, am still waiting for a good cover (and screen protector). I think there'll be a lot more choices in the next few weeks.
I pre-ordered the Nexus as an impulse buy on the day it came out, and so far I'm very satisfied with it. I'm new to Android (other than the Fire); I've never had and do not want a smart phone, so all the social contact things are not for me, but the games, books, magazines, storage options, etc., are great.

Display = boooo.
However this is influenced by my recent demo of the ipad3 display which almost seems like things just float on the surface.
Nevertheless I think text sucks on the N7. Google definitely needs to follow up with a higher end device, the hell with hurting OEMs fragile feelings.
At this point I just need tablet apps for this thing then I'd be OK

Re: What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
I wish the sound could be a bit louder, my cellphone is louder than the tablet

And better speaker placement as well.
And lastly, the volume rocker is too close to the power button IMO. I find myself hitting it often when trying to hit volume up. It would be nice if it was an inch or even a cm lower. - 07-19-2012, 07:37 PM #17
Re: What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
Owning all 3 of the iPad versions (and a Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120 Tablet, and a Nokia N810) I thought I would throw in my 2 cents worth....
Pros: light, small, easy to handle, fast response, nice screen display, EASY to figure out!!
Cons: Non that I could find yet but as mentioned above, the USB cord is a bit shorts.
When I wake up I have an iPad3 and now the N7 sitting on the night stand next to my bed and I really like reaching for the N7. It is a perfect size imo. I was able to get flash working on it in a matter of seconds thanks to a thread right here on this forum, and most of the other apps I have on my iPad3 are available in Google Play, plus I was able to install the Rotate app so that my home screen even rotates which I hope becomes an option in the next update that Google releases.
The N7 really is a nice tablet and I have owned tablets for over 8 years now. It was easy to setup, its easy to customize, the screen looks very nice even next to my iPad3 (who ever keeps saying the screen sucks must have a bad unit) and I luv the animated backgrounds!
Off to play with it some more!!!

There's some sort of auto brightness/ contrast issue. Everything gets super white after I watch videos on YouTube or through the Movies App. Goes back to normal a few minutes after I'm done.
Four other issues: (1) the short USB cable is a pain, but I'm swimming in those cables, so no big deal. (2) No 5 GHz wireless, odd because purpose-built media devices usually support it. This isn't a big issue either. Although the Xoom and Galaxy Nexus both have 5 GHz chips, neither supports speeds over 65 Mbps on that frequency (or at least I don't see it). It's sort of a wash then because the N7 hits that speed on 2.4 GHz. (3) No News and Weather widget, but that's never been an out-of-the-box thing on Android tablets. I must be the only person that likes that thing. (4) The display fit issue. Once the official cases become available, if you get one, you will probably not notice the fit of the display again. I have a second N7 one the way and I'm returning this one, which has the issue.
Other than that, I love it. The speed in launching apps is great, but what kills me is how fast Chrome is. Desktop fast. And I love the My Library widget. It updates with what you last used. Cool idea.Last edited by Small_law; 07-19-2012 at 09:04 PM.

Re: What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
No Flash support is a bother for me, from both Google and Adobe. It's all well and good Flash dying, but the uptake on HTML 5 is terrible right now. I can't watch iPlayer, 4od or the like (and Play's UK offerings in TV is non existant)

Likes...
* The feel of the device in my hand. Has a good design, great back, edges are good. Very nice to hold. Weight is nice as well, quite a bit lighter than my Nook Color.
* It's a Nexus. Love having Jelly Bean and the peace of mind that the device will get regularly updated in the future.
* Jelly Bean. Smooth UI, nice and clean. Even the phone UI is growing on me, think the phone version of apps like YouTube are better than the tablet version. Don't really miss rotation lock on my home screen (though I could easily load Nova Launcher or something to get that back).
* Screen resolution. Love having 1280x800 resolution on the screen, viewing desktop websites looks good. Text usually looks clear (seems to vary a bit on the browser and the mood of my screen).
Dislikes...
* Screen quality could be better. At first it was really washed out. Now a few days later it has improved, though I sometimes think it still looks a bit washed out. Also text sometimes doesn't look as sharp as I think it should. Maybe my screen still needs a bit more time to break in.
* No micro SD. I totally understand why Google didn't put one in, they are practically giving the tablets away, so they want to push us to buy their cloud content. Still, I kinda wish I had micro SD or 32GB of internal storage. I'll get by though.
* Chrome browser. Is it my imagination or is it sucking more than it should. I have it on my Galaxy Nexus and it seems decent (though I really wish it had a full screen mode). For some reason it feels slower on the Nexus 7. Other browsers I've tried, Dolphin and Aurora are much faster at loading sites.
Overall my dislikes are minor and my likes major, so I'm very happy with the tablet. - 11-14-2012, 01:58 PM #22
Re: What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
Like:
1) nexus 7 size n portability (much better ipad 3)
2) smooth n fluid
Dislikes / annoyances:
1) screenshot buttons can be better positioned. At mo, it's a bit of hit n miss. Much easier to screenshot on iPhone n iPad
2) on Nexus 7 4.2 jelly bean lock screen - can't amend date format/style under clock
3) google maps - when using as car nav, the screen doesn't auto move to accommodate the arrow - when arrow moves out of screen area due to driving pass the area...it would be helpful to driver if no need to scroll up/down to view rest of route
4) no easy or clear way to backup apps / docs (iPhone n iPad make it simple with iTunes) - 11-14-2012, 04:59 PM #23
Re: What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
Dislikes:
1. Lack of a MicroSD slot. It would be a world beater if it had the slot.
2. Lack of a MicroSD slot. It would be a world beater if it had the slot.
3. Lack of a MicroSD slot. It would be a world beater if it had the slot.
Other than those 3 items, I have no qualms with the tablet at the $200 price point. Though I really wish it had a MicroSD slot. - 01-26-2013, 04:58 AM #24
Re: What do you like/dislike about your new Nexus 7?
I got a great case on eBay for about £8 you can choose from loads of colours, mine has a swivel mount so you can orientate device and still use the built in stand, its really cool, would post a link if I knew how but just type nexus 7 case into eBay search box
