There are TPU cases available on amazon for $6 with free shipping. That is what is on its way to me. Looks like it should cover the edge and maybe keep the screen in place, or at least keep me from noticing.

Re: Nexus 7 Glass Seperation
This thing is garbage. Too bad I love it so much.

Re: Nexus 7 Glass Seperation
I got mine from the Play store and it had the separation problem. It wasn't bad, but it was definitely noticeable that the screen was "mushy" on the left side.
I popped the back off and tightened the screws, we'll see how long it lasts. - 07-19-2012, 06:37 PM #182

Re: Nexus 7 Glass Seperation
The screw thing was partly successful for me. The area in question was less spongy/flexible, and the amount of screen above bevel-level was decreased. However, it wasn't a 100% improvement, more like 50%. I tried the foam-removal option as seen on xda, and so far it's been better. Again, not 100% but more like 80% better...the screen is not raised anymore, but there's still a slight amount of flexibility in that area (left hand side) and there's more LCD distortion if I press on it too hard, which is not something I do in normal use. The back fits better too.
I probably wouldn't have noticed it to begin with if not for this forum, but once I knew it was there it bothered me. If this stays, it won't bother me anymore. - 07-19-2012, 08:03 PM #184
Mine has actually got worse as the night goes on, with the glass now bulging down about 3/4 of the left side all the way to the bottom corner. Much to my dismay it looks like I'll be heading to Staples tomorrow to attempt an exchange.

Re: Nexus 7 Glass Seperation
Just got mine in the mail (after UPS missed me for one day, then didn't bother to even knock on my door the next). No glass separation issues that I can see.

Re: Nexus 7 Glass Seperation
Count me in as having this issue - purchased from Staples via Mail Order, but not a pre-order. I unboxed it last night, saw the raised screen, pushed it down and got that suction sound when it popped back up, and just put it back in the box to return it. I'm thinking now I should probably pull it back out and play with it a bit to see if there's anything else wrong with it. Maybe I can live with it, as long as it doesn't get any worse.
Also, mine was one of the boxes that had been re-taped shut. Someone had speculated that maybe this was a sign that Google/Asus was checking the units for the glass separation issue. If so, they seem to have missed mine. - 07-20-2012, 06:29 PM #189

Re: Nexus 7 Glass Seperation
FYI...Haven't seen a post on this yet ?
I've read through (from front to back) the xda threads of "Nexus 7 defects", "FIX for screen separation issue!" and A-Central forums on subject, thoroughly and have not (maybe I missed it) run across a posting on this ??
Slid the Sleeve off the black box containing my Google Play order of my N7....I looked Closely at the "Black" tape sealing the lid on both sides of the box containing the Tablet. Was surprised to see Two (2) pieces of the black tape on "each" side of the box (each piece placed Very carefully over the other beneath it). In other words, the seal had been broken on each side of the box and carefully covered over with a 2nd piece of the black tape.
The tablet in the box didn't look disturbed, in any way, and had the plastic wrap fully secured in place! Someone opened & resealed the tablet box, so I'm wondering if this procedure was being carried out before shipping, to check for the common problem of "Screen Lift, and clicking (sponginess ?)" of the glass....
I haven't even taken the plastic off yet, but don't see the screen separation and movement (looseness) of the glass....."YET".....I'm Not optimistic that this isn't going to happen shortly when I heat up the tablet (charge & put it to use). I'll find out soon & when it does there will be NO tightening of screws (great idea)...this baby will be going back for a "Refund", period....
I've been waiting a Long time for this tablet, but will wait for better hardware to hold this really great piece of software that Google has provided.

Re: Nexus 7 Glass Seperation
I think mine has this issue too...though it is so minor that I wouldn't have noticed it in a million years if not for this thread. It makes me wonder if we're all over-stressing about this a little bit. That said, it sounds like a lot of people are having more noticeable play in thr screen than I am.
Regardless, I bet this is issue will be a total non-issue for 99% of "everyday" consumers..I imagine most will never notice, and wouldn't care if they did. It still shouldn't have happened in the first place though. - 07-22-2012, 02:34 PM #195
Re: Nexus 7 Glass Seperation
it's not the screws....it's the sponge/foam thing that's pushing the glass up...
The wifi screen flicker thing is a real hardware issue though... - 07-23-2012, 11:57 PM #196
Re: Nexus 7 Glass Seperation
I take back my words. The screws fix didn't work for me and the glass raised up again.
Went to exchange it today but the new one was even worse with the glass raised up and 3 dead pixels
Ended up with a refund and will probably get a new one after a week or so... - 07-24-2012, 01:29 AM #197
I've noticed that it seems tight if I haven't used it in awhile but it gets loose and spongy pretty quick as I use it. I'm wondering if it might be heat from the electronics causing expanding. Or it could just be loosening up the glue. I'll have to put in a note of that in the box when I ship it back since it will look and feel fine if it's not on long enough.

I ordered mine from gp on the 3rd and received it on the 19th. Didn't know about the problem until I ran across these forum threads. I looked at mine and sure enough the glass on mine was slightly raised on the left side middle. I gently pushed down and ran my finger along the left edge and it went down and hasn't raised up yet. But I will be keeping a close eye on it from now on. Other than that, it has been working perfectly. No other screen anomalies. I love this thing!
