Install DeskSMS on your phone, and you can send and receive texts through Google Talk on your tablet. Works really well.

Re: Text messages to my Nexus 7?
I love Tablet Talk. It is by far the MOST ESSENTIAL app since I got my Nexus 7.
Since N7 is only WiFi, I was really missing my SMS messaging and telephony. Tablet Talk restores both.
Just install the program on your Android phone (in my case, Galaxy Nexus) AND the N7, and link the two by BlueTooth or WiFi. When you get a text message, it pops up on both devices, and you can answer on either, and the entire conversation is preserved on both.
Better yet, when I get a phone call on the GN, it also pops up on the Nexus 7 and I can answer it from the N7! And the sound quality is great, though it is best with a headset, either wired or BlueTooth.
CORRECTION: Phone call answering only works when you have a Bluetooth connected to the phone. Due to limitations of Android, the tablet's speaker and mic cannot be used for active calls on your phone.
I highly recommend it. Well worth the 3 or 4 bucks I spent.Last edited by elach2; 07-23-2012 at 01:22 AM.

Re: Text messages to my Nexus 7?
I prefer TextTab to Tablet Talk.
Just sayin, if you want an alternative
edit: typo - it's TexTab
edit: After further testing, I actually prefer Tablet Talk over TexTab. Sorry for the confusion. LOL
There is also an app called smssync that does the same thing but uses dropbox instead of bluetooth connection which is kinda cool. Haven't tested it on the 7 though so not sure how it works with Jellybean.Last edited by Adam Sawyer; 07-22-2012 at 09:56 PM.

I use desksms. It allows sms messages to come in through my gtalk client. I originally started using so that I can get and reply to sms messages on my laptop. Now I use gtalk as my only chat/sms client on both my gnex and nexus 7. The only thing it won't do is mms. It will tell you that someone sent an mms and you'll have to read it through your actual chat client.

Re: Text messages to my Nexus 7?
I use Google Voice for all calls and text from all my devices. Gives me another number so I don't have to give out my pay number to everyone. I can also block calls on a per number basis. If I get a new phone with a new number my Goggle Voice number does not change so I don't have to worry about people not getting a hold of me. But as for my Nexus7 it is my gameboy so no communication apps at all. I don't like being disturbed while playing.

Re: Text messages to my Nexus 7?
Yes, but the real extra that Tablet Talk has is the ability to answer phone calls you receive on your phone - WHILE WORKING ON YOUR NEXUS 7.
Here is the feature description from the product Help:
"By default, Tablet Talk notifies you of incoming calls, which you can silence or mute from the tablet. You can adjust the vibrate and ringer setting for the caller ID popup, or disable it altogether.
By popular request, the app also now has the ability to answer and dial calls from the tablet. These features were designed for users with Bluetooth headsets who wanted to be able to control phone calls from the tablet. It is possible to use a Bluetooth headset and Tablet Talk on your phone at the same time.
NOTE: The new phone calling features are intended for use with a headset connected to your phone. You can also enable your phone's speakerphone from the tablet during a call. Due to limitations of Android, the tablet's speaker and mic cannot be used for active calls on your phone."
So, the configuration is ... You have a BlueTooth for the phone, and you can dial and answer phone calls ... without ever leaving the Nexus 7.
I don't know about Google Voice, but that Tablet Talk feature seems pretty damn cool to me. - 07-23-2012, 03:08 AM #23
