Re: Nexus 7 battery life?
I agree I put mine through the paces, downloaded several apps, streamed video and music, played with the gps features and I barely dented the battery life.

Re: Nexus 7 battery life?
Today was my first full day of use with the thing. The day is not over but here is what we are looking at. so far up time is 8 hours and 23 minutes, and screen powered on time is 4 hours and 18 minutes. I specifically set the screen brightness to 55%. I have been mostly browsing the web, checking email, tried playing a few Tegra 3 games (total of 30 minutes), and watched a few YouTube videos. After 8 hours 23 minutes up time and 4 hours 18 minutes of that having the screen on at 55% brightness, my battery still has exactly 30% charge left. Here are the 2 coinciding screen shots so you can see.
Edit: Forgot to add, I am impressed! - 07-18-2012, 08:31 PM #5
Had my screen time over 8 hours with 25% still left. Its great.

Re: Nexus 7 battery life?
I am jealous. I have been getting much worse battery performance than what is reported here. With my first full charge and screen @ about 70% my battery use is showing 3hrs and 3 min I am showing 30%. I am getting this despite no gaming and no video playing whatsoever. I have only been surfing. Why is my battery life so poor? Every review I read online gets closer to what you are claiming.
One reviewer claimed over 7 hours of video playback!

Could you post what your actual screen time is? As far as I am concerned the only "use" i get out of my devices is when I am looking at the screen and from your graph 16hrs sounds good but it looks like the vast majority of the time the screen was off.
Thanks.Last edited by sjankis630; 07-18-2012 at 10:08 PM.

Re: Nexus 7 battery life?
Ah.. Everyone thanks for the input. I will recharge tonight and try it around 50%. I am still discovering stuff on this device and for the first time in recent memory I feel I got much more enjoyment for the money spent. Thanks to all.

Re: Nexus 7 battery life?
Battery lasted me all day with heavy use yesterday. On a 8 hour bus trip (round trip), watched a movie, listened to music, surfed web, updated apps, the whole range of activities. Full charge at start of the day, 7:00 am, hit 12% battery at around 10:00 pm. That's pretty excellent. It was tethered to a Sprint hotspot while I was on the bus, in airplane mode the rest of the time.

Re: Nexus 7 battery life?
The lowest I got without a magnet was 300, but that was using the button to turn the screen off. I'm running a custom kernel however (Motley kernel from XDA forum to get 1600mhz) so that may be the problem. I'll have to test some more. At any rate even if the Motley kernel is the problem the fact that deep sleep works is cool.
I was told 51 is only used when certain sound devices are plugged in and a music app is playing. It kills the screen. Otherwise it should go down to the 102. Than again with the kernel I'm running who really knows. It's too new to have the bugs worked out. - 07-19-2012, 06:29 PM #18

Re: Nexus 7 battery life?
Did a full charge on my N7 on Tuesday evening when I un-boxed it and then proceeded to use it in place of my iPad-3 for the follow two days. I have the Battery Circle app installed to tell me what exactly is going on with the battery and it lasted me 44 hours of on and off use (the same amount of use I would have done if I was using my iPad 3 over the last two days) checking emails, surfing the web, downloading apps, reading PDF books, etc...
So almost two full days of use from one charge... and that was the very first full charge. Not sure if it will improve after this second charge but I can report back if you all would like. - 07-21-2012, 10:15 PM #22
Re: Nexus 7 battery life?
I have retested the device after setting screen brightness to 50%.I am still disappointed. The second time around I checked at 30% charge left I had used the screen about 2 hrs and 45min. That still doesn't translate to anything lose to 8hrs. Again no movie or game play.
To those watching movies do you set the screen to stay on the whole time at the given brightness.
Bummer. - 07-21-2012, 10:59 PM #23

Re: Nexus 7 battery life?
55 hours on second full charge which is up from 11 hours from the first full charge so mine is actually getting better. I am currently charging it from 0 for the third time and will see how it does. Using my N7 for reading PDF book in Kindle reader, checking emails, surfing web, looking at IP security cameras, and Draw Something (which does not run very good on N7). Basically everything I used the iPad for I am using the N7 in its place. Will setup Netflix today and test it out...
