Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
I never did before my Galaxy Nexus and now i've done the N7... these are easy, the S3 might be a bit trickier, but the real techies have already done the hard part i'm sure, there are usually simple step by step guides...
I can't wait for CM10 to come out, CM with Jellybean will be awesome! - 07-19-2012, 03:42 PM #28

Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
It took me 3 days, but I'm now amazed too.
When I first got mine on Tuesday the screen looked washed out and whites over saturated, making text on white backgrounds look fuzzy. I didn't notice much improvement yesterday, but today it actually looks pretty good.
I still have an issue playing some videos causing the over saturation to reoccur, but it seems to only last a few seconds now than goes back to normal.
I was worried I might have to return mine, but looks like it's going to be fine now. Just need some time to settle in.
I used the DPI tweak to get the tablet UI. It was nice, but I decided to go back to the stock DPI setting. The tablet UI was a bit small and I didn't want to hassle with app incompatibility. And I really don't mind the phone UI anyway. I use YouTube a lot and I think the phone version is much better looking too.
Haven't even touched my iPad 3 since I got this. - 07-19-2012, 05:22 PM

I love it as well. I'm thinking of saying goodbye to my Ipad.

Yeah, my Chrome was pretty sluggish too. I switched to Dolphin. It doesn't seem to render text as nicely, but it's so much faster, it has a full screen mode and desktop agent setting. And it seems to block some ads that Chrome loads (probably why it's so much faster on some sites).

Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
Mine literally just came in (unboxing went well after the top sleeve cover travesty). I am literally stunned by it, well worth the wait. The screen is gorgeous, it's buttery smooth, Google Now is amazing. Easily the best device I've ever owned period.

Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
The UI was still very usable. The system fonts were a bit small, but readable. You can enable "larger fonts", but I found those were too big. The notifications were a pretty small too, but still usable.
I had already installed most of my apps I need for now before doing the tweak, so didn't run into any compatibility issues. For me I though 170 DPI looked a bit better than 160 DPI. Though folks say 160 will be more compatible since that is a standard DPI while 170 isn't.
The DPI tweak is pretty nice. I just removed it because I'm pretty okay with the Phone UI and just figured it wasn't worth potential hassle later.
Also, someone mentioned the Engadget app doesn't look right on the Nexus 7, but with 160 DPI it looks perfect, so the DPI tweak even fixes some apps.

Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
had to cancel my pre-order on this thing and it was hard.
after commuting underground the last week i realized that the lack of removable storage was a deal breaker. the whole point of having a nice compact 7" tablet was to take it with me on the go, a lot. since i commute every day, i want to be able to keep around 10-15gb of music on my tablet permanently. and still have room to download movies to watch and more.
this tablet just couldn't do that, because google wanted to stick me into the Play cloud. i like google play, but i am just away from wifi all too often when i need to have data. data in the form of entertainment files, from music to movies.
with 16gb i would have to constantly be moving files on and off. sure every night or morning i could load up a bunch of stuff to read via a kindle app, pulse or pocket or what not. with 16 gb. but otherwise i'd be fubared.
very upset.
going to have to keep an eye out for an asus tablet that runs vanilla android, and gives me a simple external micro sd slot. that's all this thing needs. - 07-19-2012, 09:00 PM #41

Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
I have the HTC EVO 4G LTE,and I love it. But compared to my Nexus 7 and its stock Jelly Bean/Android goodness, HTC Sense is a frustrating fight with crashes and restarts. Now I know why Nexus devices get so much love. Lesson learned and learned well. I cannot find a flaw with my 7; it is a wonderful beast.

Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
I have experienced no lagginess on Chrome at all, or any issues reading any PDFs. I suspect the post about such issues is more a function of the PDF software used than the tablet itself. I use RepliGo reader which works beautifully.
With regards to Sense, I strongly suspect the freezes and such were Android itself and not Sense - I have used Sense for years with zero issues. Remember that Jelly Bean's Project Butter component is specifically aimed at these types of issues. - 07-19-2012, 10:13 PM #47
Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
I think alot of it has to do with Jelly Bean. I've had it on my Xoom for a couple weeks and the smoothness and UI refinements are very nice with zero lag on this aging device. And Jelly bean on 10 inches @160 dpi is beatiful.
And its a Nexus with an unlockable bootloader, so unlock it!
fastboot oem unlock
Thats it.
There will be custom kernels that will allow for USB otg host. So you can stick a usb stick or card reader into the micro usb (via otg host cable $5 on eBay) to stream movies or music. It can alleviate issues for those that don't want to move to the cloud. If you think someone is being rude its probably because you miss understood them. - 07-19-2012, 10:15 PM #48

Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
You guys crying about not having enough storage haven't thought it through.
A short male micro USB to female USB cable is less than $5 on amazon and a fast 32 gig USB stick is $25. Root, install Stickmount, get some sticky back velcro tabs, a decent cover, use the velco to attach the USB stick inside the cover, hook up the cable and you've got the best 40 GB tablet on the market for roughly $250 for all of it.Thanked by: - 07-19-2012, 10:32 PM #50
Re: I Am Amazed By This Thing
I signed up so I could throw my two cents in. I'm very pleased with my N7. I am getting terrific battery life, the user interface is easily as good as iOS (if not better) and getting two updates in the first two days of owning the tablet speaks volumes about how serious Google is when it comes to supporting the Nexus device(s). Color me impressed.
The Transformers movie along with the other free media (magazines, music, etc.) and toss $25 worth of Play Store credit on top of that is just icing on the cake. Somebody did their marketing homework. Get the slight QC and supply chain issues sorted out and Apple's in trouble...
