Default How apps view an Internet connection

So I am trying out FoxFi/PdaNet via Bluetooth when I don't have a wifi connection. It works well for 80% of the apps, but some don't view it as an Internet connection and will exit. GoogleNews for example - which is funny since other Google apps are fine.

I am assuming this is not unique to the Nexus 7, but I wanted to check since I have never had a wifi only device connect in this way.

This is an interesting issue. I have this game, Where's My Water, which will not work without WiFi turned on, that is using the Nexus 7.

With my X2, the program works fine without WiFi.

    Is this a common issue??

That's an interesting idea... keeping wifi on, even though you aren't using it to connect, but that didn't make a difference for me.
