Default I love my Nexus 7 so much I rarely use my phone!

Since I received my new tablet I rarely use my phone. I can go a whole day without charging my phone (Samsung Epic)

I'm excited because i wanted my Nexus 7 as a replacement for just surfing the web and other things on my computer. I have not yet touched my computer since i've gotten my N7.

    LOVING IT

The only time I use my phone now is at work. I even use Tablet Talk to get my text messages on it so I never even have to pick up my phone.

Not only am I not using my GNex as often, when I do pick it up, I'm always a little disappointed! It seems so small and dated now. And I LOVE my GNex.

I agree. I use the hotspot on my phone more than the phone itself. Since I received my N7 last week I have only used my laptop once and that was because the N7 was charging. Love it!

You can make phone calls using Google Voice with the Nexus 7? I didn't know that.

I find myself using my phone much less as well. I still like my phone more, but the newness hasn't worn off the Nexus yet.

I was just about to post a topic asking if anyone is using their N7 as a phone? I'm debating whether to root my E4GT, enable WiFi tether and just use the N7 to handle most of my communication needs (via Google Voice and Tablet Talk). That way I'd be guaranteed fast updates and essentially have a top of the line "phone" for only $200. Only downside is the lack of expandable memory on the N7. But considering I won't be taking photos or need to store them on my N7, that's probably not a problem and I'd still have my actual phone with me anyway in cases where I needed to store things.

Any other downside to this that you can think of, besides carrying around two devices?

You don't need to root. Foxfi is free and works without root

I can't seem to find a trial version of Tablet Talk. Is there one?

Why would you want to pay for an app when you can use Google Talk for free. You can pick a new phone number for your tablet or sync it with your mobile. Free calls and text to US and Canada.

Will Google Talk on the Nexus 7 allow you to answer a call or text sent to your mobile number? I didn't know it could to that.

Think he is referring to Google Voice not Google Talk. You will have to set up a Google Voice # and have people text that number though and it will sync to all devices you associate with that #

Or, be a Sprint customer and have your number already integrated with Google Voice

Same here' my phone actually lasts more than a day without needing charge!

All I want now is Flash support/ more availability for UK on features already seen in the US

Is there a google voice explanation that details it all in simple terms?
Like if there are any downsides to porting my verizon phone number to google voice? I'm currently under contract, so I have no idea if this goes against verizon's rules or not.

If you port your number to Google voice while under contract. It would have the same affect as if you ported to a different carrier. With Google voice all you need is a data connection to make phone calls and text. I have my sprint number associated with my Google voice and I can text from my personal number on any of my android devices or even my computer.

Thanks, so I guess the process would be:
    1) Wait for Verizon 2-year contract to end
    2) Transfer my number to google voice
    3) Stick with verizon (I'll need a new number) or switch to another carrier (and get a new number)
    5) Route new phone number to google voice (which is my old phone number) so people can keep calling me on my old number even though my carrier has given me a different number(?)

IF you want to stick with VZ, The moment your port your number out of VZ, that line and the features on it will terminated... If you have unlimited data, you wont be able to port that to the new VZ line.
