Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Received mine after ordering it from Play. It seemed perfect until I tried plugging in ear phones. The plug didn't sit well in the audio jack, no sound in the ear phones, and the speaker did not shut off. Tried several different plugs and pushed in as hard as I dare...no luck. Had to send it back for a replacement. The replacement works fine, especially the audio jack.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Sadly I just got mine from Walmart (only local store that had them) and it has serious screen ripple issues on the left side. I'm going to do a video later but even mild, and I mean barely touching, the left side causes everything to get "wavy"

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Noticing a lot of people here are saying "mine is perfect, no problems" followed by "there might be a screen lift". If there's a screen lift it's not perfect. I'm now on my 10th Nexus 7 which will be returned later today. Just killed the stores entire new shipment with returns. Dept. manager considering not ordering any more period until Google fixes this.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
I think I'm actually done after returning this one. Why are they even shipping out faulty garbage this late after realizing the vast majority are defective.

Mine is perfect as well, no screen lift, absolutely in great condition, perfect condition. Got mine on Friday from gamestop it was pre-ordered. I was so scared to open the box after hearing all the horror stories, so before I paid for the tablet I asked the rep to please open up box in front of me to check to see if it was defective or not and thank goodness it was in perfect condition. I was so happy, but I did take out a 1 year warranty just in case something happens and they said they don't repair these tablets they just give you a new one with there warranty which is good to know.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Came in fine when I received it back in 17th of July but just yesterday, the screen started to get a whitewash/ghosting issue
. The screen goes back to normal the more the screen is turned on so it needs at least 15-30 minutes before the white tinge totally disappears. Then as soon as the screen is off for more than 3-5 seconds, the whitewash comes back. I left it off overnight and I could barely see what was on the screen this morning.
The problem I'm now faced with is trying to get it replaced. At first the Google rep tells me that I am out of the 15day return/replace policy they have
. Not a great thing to hear, especially for a device which I thought and still think is an awesome device. Obviously the device has a defect. But they have good news the rep says so now, I have to go through an RMA process and have to wait and see what happens. The process of which I will be contacted within a few days via email by a "specialist" and hopefully its nothing that will take too long.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
I'm taking mine for exchange today after work. Though I'm kind of nervous. This will definitely be the only time I exchange. I'm not going through 5 devices. If this one doesn't work out, I'll give it some time. Fingers crossed.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
If you people are doing multiple returns because you can manage to slide your fingernail into the seam on the left side of the case or because you're scrutinizing a screen tester app for any sign of backlight bleed, you need to take a Xanax... seriously.
I challenge you double digit n7 returners to document these problems with some photos and post them here as evidence. I'm betting the majority of these issues are people being just a little OCD.
I got my n7 from the google pre-order and reading this thread would make it seem that I've won the n7 lottery by receiving a 'worthy' unit on my first try! I've got a buddy at work who just ordered the 16gb and is worried now that he's going to somehow receive a piece of garbage from reading posts like these. I'm calling BS until I see some photos documenting the severity of these problems. - 08-07-2012, 04:00 PM #265
Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
I've been through 3, and called it a day. All 3 had pretty significant screen lift, were 'creaky', and caused pretty significant ripples on the left side of the screen.
It's a letdown because I can tell I would have really loved it, but I wasn't going to keep running through defective devices. I may try again in a few weeks, but it sounds like they are still shipping out defective devices, which is pretty disappointing from a consumer standpoint considering they are clearly aware of the problem. - 08-07-2012, 05:15 PM #266

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Defective - Screen lift and became completely unresponsive to touch. I even re-imaged it (if that is the right term). Thing was rocking for a day. I am returning it for refund, but who knows might get one a month or two from now.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Is screen flickering a software or hardware issue? I've started noticing that, and I've looked it up and it says that it usually happens at lower lighting on a bright screen or Chrome, which is when it happens for me... but if it can be fixed, then I don't know if I want to go through the trouble of returning or exchanging it. Other than that, my Nexus seems to be in great condition... unless I'm just oblivious to the problems. But in that case, I'd probably never be happy with any Nexus tablet and just keep returning them and wanting to tear my hair out.

Purchased a 8 GB model from staples only problem I have now is that I cannot use the headphone jack it will not allow me to push it all the way through.
Never mind it works fine nowLast edited by jabwtv; 08-07-2012 at 06:43 PM.

First off, going through 10 already? Crikey, no wonder there was a delay!
Second, I love mine.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
8GB model, pre ordered from google, delivered 20th of July, been running perfect ever since.
My only issue is how finicky it is about what cable I use to charge it from, this makes no sense and shouldn't even be an issue at all, the fact that it is, is somewhat worrying.
Any forum poll like this is going to be heavily biased towards defective models though because its people with problems that are searching for these threads! - 08-07-2012, 08:46 PM #272

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
This is beyond people searching for these threads. I went through 2 entire shipments my local store got. Wife's friends husband is on 4th which is going back. A friend of mine that works in a nearby town has gone through 7 or 8 I forgot which. My friend thought his was excellent until I showed him what to look for. Then the returns started. Personally don't know a single person with a truly working one.

Not gonna open it, cause I ordered a 16GB from Google Play Store. I'll see if that one is a good one, then return the 8GB. If the 16GB is bad again, I'm just gonna keep the 8GB, assuming it's ok.
