Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Got it today. LOVE IT!
Although there's a slight problem. On the middle of the left side (on the edge) the glass isn't really on all the way. I probably wouldn't have noticed it if I hadn't read so many stories about it on this forum. It's barely raised and when you touch it's kind of "clicky" when obviously it shouldn't be.
I'm probably gonna have to send it back, I'm just gonna wait a little because I waited so long to get this thing and with the way Google has been shipping it would take too long. I figure I could wait a few weeks. - 07-26-2012, 09:03 PM #103Thanked by:

mine had a blown speaker (distorts above 60%) and a screen defect I haven't heard about anywhere else. There's finger width abrasion down the middle of the screen about 2 inches long. It's only visible when the screen is not perfectly clean. I only notice it because finger prints makes it stand out. I'm exchanging it at my first opportunity. The only problem is no store in the Toronto area can hold stock..

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Just got my Nexus Today. Everything is great except for that I am experiencing some of the screen lifting on left middle edge of the screen. I pushed it down and haven't had an issue since. Hopefully it doesn't pop back up.
Should I be safe and send it back for a different one? - 07-26-2012, 09:11 PM #106
Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
16GB from the US Play Store, no issues

I also just got my 8gb nexus 7 today. Everything is pretty much perfect, except for a little raised edge, which clicks when I press on it. It's really not that big of a deal though since it doesn't effect he user experience.

Mine has the screen lift on the left side also. When people say they wouldn't have noticed it without knowing what to look for i totally agree. I've clamped it to see if it'll hold afterwards. It's VERY minor. If I were sure it would not get worse I would ignore it.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Almost perfect so far! I have a 16GB from Staples. I have had the keyboard go unresponsive after playing a game. Turning it on and off clears the problem. I suspect an update will be in the works.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
The same thing, so far I was thinking that mine is perfect and that this thread was about devices that were seriously defect.
I have the exact same protruding screen on the left edge, but mine doesn't make a click noise or so. If I try to push it, it just goes down crackling lightly. I mean its very dicey. How do I get it replaced to get a complete peace of mind !

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
16gb from Staples about 10 days ago. No pre order, just walked in. Slight screen lift on the left center part which seems to be getting worse and worse. slight image burns and ghosting issues. Washed out colors which seems to get better after 10 mins of warming up. Its quite a shame since I have really come to love this tablet and jellybean. 4 more days of waiting before the 14 days return policy time expires on me. Waiting on Staples but seems like they won't have any by then so just gonna return this and wait a good month or so before I'm completely sure most of these tablets don't have these issues anymore and then order another one.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Same problem with the left side of the Screen. No protrusions but it does make a slight clicking sound. I will live with it considering so many other people are experiencing this and other problems, I rather not chance getting a worse unit.

1st Nexus 7 16gig from the UK Play store had screen lift on the left. That was RMAed but the replacement has screen lift on the top right. Not particularly raised but clicks when pressed. Gonna leave it a week or two in the hope screen lift is resolved and then RMA again.

2 16 gb.
One was perfect, and the other, right by the volume rockers the case itself feels off.. I'll get a picture and try to fix it. Its going in a case so I'm not sure its an issue. Fully functional though.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
16GB Model purchased from a local Staples a week ago today. Left side of screen is coming up a little, and I'm not thrilled by the color/display.
However, I LOVE this thing, and don't want to be without it! I guess I should return it though... - 07-27-2012, 08:43 AM #121
Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
First one the left side of the display was buggered, to use the technical term. Second is perfect. Good thing Sams has a good return policy.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Got mine in the mail today. Noticed right away that the screen wasn't as responsive as it was supposed to be (like my Galaxy Nexus). I don't have the glass separation (that I can see) but presses and long presses don't work half the time, especially on the bottom of the screen. When I was finally able to open Google maps zooming in and out worked about half of the time and sometimes were opposite. Called Google and they said it was a common issue and they would send a replacement. Unfortunately I'm in Belgium and had it shipped here by my mom so I have to ship it back to her for the RMA, and she has to ship me the replacement. So this $270 (with shipping and tax) tablet is going to cost me about $330. At least.

Re: Was your Nexus 7 defective or in Perfect condition?
Most common problem seems to be that the glass is not glued firmly into the bezel/metal edge, particularly on the left side as you hold it in landscape. That's the "problem" with mine. If I pinch the left edge gently and release, I can hear and feel the glue "click" ever so slightly as it lets go again. The glue was obviously not allowed to set properly before the unit was boxed, and has set with the glass not properly affixed. For some people, this problem gets worse, and for some it seems to fix itself. I've had mine for less than a day and I have 13 days to exchange it. I will decide what to do next week depending on whether it gets worse or not.
Second problem is a loss of screen responsiveness, especially after running an intense game or app. No problems on mine with that, but I don't game on it.
Third problem seems to be a sudden "washing" or "whiteout" of colors, sometimes after a few days of use. Mine seems fine, but then again I've only had it for one day.
There are also sporadic reports of USB charging issues, probably a bad batch of cheap USB ports out there or something.
First and fourth problems appear to be manufacturing defects. Second and third may be fixable with a software update. But if you run into the problem, exchange it for now - you can only exchange them at most places for 2 weeks or so, so get a perfect one or get stuck with a possible dud.
I haven't seen anything else out there that appears common. Personally, I'm happy enough having one with a practically unnoticeable separation on the left side. It's not absolutely and utterly perfect, but for $250 for a 16GB fondleslab, it's not too bad. If the separation gets worse, I'll wait until Staples has stock and exchange it. - 07-27-2012, 11:00 AM #125
