I have a Nook tablet and like it ok. But thinking of trading up to the more powerful N7. But I have a few questions.

Is it possible to sideload my NON-B&N into something else? Like Play books or the nook app? And will my nook magazine subscription (EW) work within the nook app?

The buginess of the nook is it's big downfall. It's not rooted, nor do I plan to root it or the N7. Is the N7 an improvement? With web and usability.

And finally, with the nook I have an SD card, how big of an adjustment is not having that option?

Anything else a prospective nook to Nexus user should know? I plan to use it primarily as a reader but like the extra functions a tablet provides.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Well I don't know for sure if you can move all of your B&N content over to the Nook app, but I am pretty sure that should be doable. But as far as a comparison between the two devices there is no comparison. My wife has a Nook tablet and I have a Nexus 7 and the N7 is better at everything.

It's physically smaller than the Nook in almost every dimension but has the same size screen. It is so fast and smooth compared to the Nook that it really isn't even in the same league. Honestly even comparing it to my Galaxy tab 8.9 it still faster at most things. Not to mention you have full access to the google play store and you are not stuck with B&Ns weak app store. That alone would make it worth getting because there is so much you are missing out on being stuck with B&Ns extremely limited app selection.

I have already told my wife that we are going to be ditching her Nook and getting her a N7 in the very near future. But we will probably wait until they are available in stores since she is not really in any hurry. Like you pointed out the only thing that the Nook really has going for it is removable storage, but for the way we use our devices that's not really going to be much of an issue.

Also for what it's worth I use the Nook app for reading on my N7 and I have already loaded my entire epub library of almost a thousand books on it. I really can't say enough good things about the N7 it is just amazing, I promise you will not be sorry if you upgrade from the Nook Tablet to a N7.

I have used the Nook Color since last year. The Nexus 7 is better. I have access to all the Android apps and can use the same purchased apps that I have on my phone too.
My single issue magazines and subscriptions are in my Nook app except for People magazine. My wife subscribes to the print edition and with the Nook, you get a free digital subscription which is not a problem for me. I also have the Kindle app so if a book is not available from B&N, I can use the Kindle app.
So far, the memory is not a problem.

They sideload with out any issues. I have 300 epubs that I moved from my Nook Tablet to my Nexus 7 and have had no issues so far.

The N7 is lighter...that's a huge reason to get it over a Nook...

I think you can sideload your books into the Kindle app or Aldiko too.

.cbz comics to. Never tried to sideload into comixology (if it can do that) but the N7 can read that format right? (Google search turned up nothing on that one)

Yes the Nexus 7 can read cbr, cbz, and rar files, but u need an app that can open them. Im current using Android Comic Viewer, but its just a scalled up phone app and since the comics are just being scalled up it makes the text hard to read. Im going to try out perfect viewer today when i get home.

Update: I just download Perfect Viewer and in terms of comic quality, easiness to read, and page scrolling its much better then Android Comic Viewer. But I do find it to be a lil but more difficult to manage your comics. Overall i think its a better app.

I tried Perfect Viewer, but the user interface is too ... ugly. And it's quite annoying to have to click every time to go to next page.

Did you try "Challenger comics viewer" ?
It's a FREE comics viewer available on Android Market (no ads).
You don't have to click to go to next page, all pages are automatically loaded.
Try it in landscape mode, it's really awesome !
It support local files (cbr/cbz/pdf/jpg/png) and network files (Samba/CIFS/Webdav/Ftp/SFtp).

I also tried Comicrack, it's quite OK but you still have to click to go to next page.
Use "Challenger comics viewer" and you will be addict !

I have a nook color which I used to run as stock or with Cyanogenmod on an SD card. It was great fun as my first tablet and reader but the Nexus7 is heads and shoulders above the nook. The stock nook is crippled by B&N and the modded Nook is slow and buggy as hell. Make the move, install a B&N app (I'm actually using the Kindle app and Google reader more) and you won't look back.

Maybe then we can all start asking why ebooks with much less utility for the consumer cost more than paperbacks?

I've had the following: Nook Color, Acer A500, Nook Simple Touch, and a Nook Tablet (in that order).

I have the N7 now, and it blows all of the above out of the water. All of my content loads fine into the B&N app (I actually prefer this app as my primary ebook reader). For cbz, I never got an app for those files. I usually just unzipped them (they're glorified zip files, btw) and put them onto the tablet and flipped through the image files.

Seriously, switch up from the Nook Tablet, and you won't look back.

I've used both the old Nook Color and newer Nook Tab, and they pale in comparison to the N7 in every way. Anything the Nook can do the N7 can do better. The new Nook HD does have a fantastic display though.
