Default Any other choice for internet connection?

I was wondering if there was an app that I could download that would let me use cell phone type service with the Nexus 7?

You have to describe "cell phone type service" in more detail. As in do you mean 3g/4g mobile data, or voice calling or SMS/MMS text?

The Nexus doesn't have a cellular radio so you'd need to get a MIFI like device and a plan from a wireless company. If you already have a smartphone and data plan you may be able to wirelessly tether that way.

You may be able to Bluetooth connect to your phone and get access. It works with Motorola phones, don't know what you have.

I'm assuming you have a smartphone, if so, there are multiple ways of going about it. If you have an android phone, the easiest way is via an app called foxfi.

You might be able to help a friend of mine with an HTC that almost connects with bluetooth, what's next after you download the app?

Download the app and then open the app and select "activate WiFi hotspot" it's that simple. On your tablet, laptop, whatever, just open WiFi and look for the network name listed on the foxfi app.(it is right below the activate WiFi button) Then connect and you're done.

Worked great with my ASUS Slider, I'm sure it will work with my Nexus. Is Big Red going to figure this out and start billing for the tethering? I wasn't as concerned with the bluetooth method because it was one-on-one and I could only use one device at a time, why would they care which one it is?

Just got an e-mail from my friend with the HTC(don't know which model). He gets an error trying to open the hotspot and can't do the bluetooth option either. Is he dead in the water? This works for my Droid 4.

I have a tethering plan on my iphone & it works great. You just have to hook it up once and every time I turn on the tethering on the iphone & the nexus 7 is nearby it automatically makes the connection. Also the tethering plan is cheaper than the so called hot spot with a data plan. jimjoh

You can always simply rely on open hotspots (McDonald's, Starbucks, Airports, Hotels, etc.)
