The Google Pinyin is neat. Settings > language input > google pinyin
might need to disable chinese auto correct
click default and change to pinyin
each key has both letters and numbers. swipe up on a letter for capital, swipe down for the number.
it also has another layout to choose with combined letters on one key. swipe up down and diagonal for each letter. and has like a joystick pad for moving around the text cursor

Re: how to put numbers on screen keyboard without shifting?
My vote is for SwiftKey's long-press feature as mentioned above.
And unlike the stock keyboard, when you do a shift in SwiftKey, you get a nice keypad layout as opposed to the "across the top" layout making numeric entry much simpler and quicker.
Oh, and personally, I prefer the PHONE version on my Nexus 7 over the TABLET version. It's more compact yet still very usable, and provides a row of Arrow Keys which appears to be missing from the Tablet version. - 08-22-2012, 12:30 PM #6

Re: how to put numbers on screen keyboard without shifting?
I've been looking for an alternative keyboard for a while as the issue with not having access to the number keys without hitting the symbols button on the stock is pretty annoying.
I tried Swiftkey but wasn't keen on it, I felt it was interfering with input too much and didn't find a style/layout that I was happy with. I also tried Go Keyboard but also couldn't gets layout I was happy with.
Thanks for mentioning perfect keyboard, its pretty much exactly what I was looking for. Free version has Android style but adds customization options such as key height for all different types of keys, key press sound/vibrate controls and a bunch of other settings. - 08-26-2012, 10:30 AM #8

Long press the top line of the keyboard which has number. That will print the numbers.

I use numbers a lot on a form I have to fill out regularly and the long press leaves me with a lot of errors to clean up. So during the work day I switch to hackers keyboard and back to SwiftKey at night... Hackers works just like a regular computer keyboard. An added plus is the tab key. A must for filling out long forms.
