    Default Headset button controls?

Search gave me nothing on this: I can't seem to get my headset buttons to work with any app on the 7. I need this very much for pause/play. Does the jack just not support it? Is there a setting somewhere I need to tick?

yeah, android doesn't support it as well as ios, but I thought I read somewhere that jelly bean has improved that. I might be wrong.

Anyway, what I do now is to use a bluetooth headset. it gives you the best control over audio functions. The only thing is that the sound quality isn't as good as a line in headset. to me this doesn't matter as much since I mostly listen to podcast.

Yes, they buttons work fine on my Nexus with JB, but they don't work AT ALL on the Nexus 7. I listen to podcasts at night and need to be able to pause/play on wired headphones.

have you try to use a headphone button controller app? yeah, this is the reason why i stop buying wired headphones since often time, i can't get all the buttons to work properly and the wire can be a hassle.

Do those in-line buttons depend on the headphone jack supporting a microphone? Because they aren't supported on the N7, which results in some other accessories not working properly, such as the square payment module. *grumble, grumble*

That's a good point. Is the switchover from headset to speaker in software (like it is on my Thunderbolt phone) or in hardware?

I know on my Thunderbolt if I plug in a headset with a mic I get an icon on the top of the screen, and if I plug in a basic headset I get a different icon. There's also a brief delay until the sound switches over, I'm guessing as the sensors determine what is hooked up. Also, when I unplug the headphones, any music I have playing pauses automatically.

However, on the Nexus 7, there's no sign of any icons when I plug in a headset. I've honestly never tried a headset with a mic.

I'm wondering if the Nexus 7 might just have a cheap hardware-switched headset jack instead of a software-controlled one to save build cost?

It could be that the hardware itself is the problem, yes. I know that different jacks have different connectors to match up with the plug (which is different depending on the features of the headphones). I have not tried headset control apps (which I have used before on my phones), but I could try that as well.

My worry is that the jack itself is just not the type that makes the right connections.

Yes, buttons require headset jacks (along with correct headset button mapping within the OS), but the Nexus 7 only has a headphone jack.

    Hi guys
I have been trying to make the headset button control to work in my Nexus 7.
I have tried many headset button control apps (Headset button controller, Jays headset control, Headset droid) and none of them work.
HOWEVER, the closest I have gotten so far is in Headset droid. I could get the "plug out" action to do anything I want (play, pause, next song, stop, etc)... Still, the "plug in" action is not recognized, neither the one button headset control.
I wonder, does this small response to the plug out headset action means that lack of headset button control options has nothing to do with the hardware?
    Any experts out there?

    Thanks!
