With JB 4.1.2

Outside without a data connection, I open Google Maps expecting to get current location using GPS satellites as source. I also have local maps cached. I confirm with GPS Test that I have good satellite lock (10 sats, 13' accuracy). But Google Maps tells me I have no data connectivity (as expected) but also continues to show Waiting for Location. And hitting the current location button has no effect other than generating the waiting message. I also confirmed that everything is enabled in Settings -> Location access. So Maps is not getting the data from the GPS. If I open Maps with GPS turned off, Maps tells me that is the case and will take me to Settings to enable it. I have tried with Wifi & mobile network location both enabled and disabled.

Any ideas or similar experience?

Try downloading any of the free GPS apps like the one below and see if it eventually finds satellites.


The interface of the above APP is 'ok', but it will show the number of satellites that is available. You can goto Settings (The three dots in the right bottom)->Tools->Manage A-GPS state->Download to download satellite info which will help the GPS get a lock faster.

I usually start this APP first and makes sure it gets satellites and then use the Google Maps. I use it more on my Galaxy Nexus phone but tablet shouldn't be any different.

Yeah, that's what I used GPS Test for - it showed locked satellites with great reception/coverage.

It appears to be fixed - I cleared data and cache from Maps (including my cached maps) and it now looks to be working correctly.

I was wrong - still not getting location. I also tried installing/reinstalling updates to no avail. Also loaded and used CoPilot USA to confirm that live mapping with other apps works under same conditions.

I am in the exact same situation. I updated Galaxy Nexus to 4.1.2 this Sunday and it broke Google Maps. When I look at Google maps, my location jumps around. Sometimes the location will fix to one location, but miles away from where I am. As a result, Google Navigation also doesn't work. Co-Pilot works fine and using GPTS test, I can get a fix on 10 satellites and accuracy is within 5 metres. I've tried turning location services on and off but that didn't help. I've uninstalled and re-installed Maps, but that didn't help.
The only time I can get a correct location is is if I turn on wifi at home.

I ended up doing a factory reset to resolve this and confirmed yesterday that Google Maps now works correctly off-line.
