doesn't happen to me too.. tried a lotta things.. even third party apps don't work .. its say maybe your phone is rooted .. certainly my device is not rooted..

Try screenshot ultimate. It is free and doesn't require root or connecting to a computer to activate. Just set it up however you want to take a screenshot.

Edit: To clarify, I use it on my Photon. My N7 can take screenshots normally just fine.

No problems here. It's quite easy, just press power and volume down together.

press both buttons together and hold it for 2 seconds.

Yup was me, if the volume display comes up it won't do the snapshot. I got it now. Just a little practice and the holding for 2 seconds worked.
