Looking to Gift a Nexus 7/Parental Controls
So I'm looking to gift a Nexus 7 to my mom and sister. My mom pretty much needs it to watch youtube videos and web browsing, my sister needs it to play my little pony and angry birds. My question is does the N7 have multiuser user capabilities like the N10? If not is there an app that I can download to keep some form of parental controls to shield my little sister of the internet. Help please.

You can set up multiple users, each with different passwords, just like your Nexus 10. Assuming your sister is young, there is a great [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...] on Google Play.

There's also an app called funamo.
I got asked this same question from my sister this past weekend. She wanted to get a Kindle for her son, but I said he would appreciate the gaming capability of the N7 a lot more.

Yes, there is multiuser support but you have to update to 4.2 to get that feature.
buy the n7 and update it asap. The update is already out.
Re: Looking to Gift a Nexus 7/Parental Controls
I have the same problem, and I'm not sure the multi-user features of 4.2 allow to specifically:
- stop my son from installing apps without my supervision
- prevent him from browsing adult related web sites
Any help much appreciated.
Re: Looking to Gift a Nexus 7/Parental Controls
If a kid really wants to get to porn sites they will. OpenDNS do offer free DNS based filtering and instructions on how to configure most routers to use it, it isn't really difficult for a smart kid to work around, but it will provide a level of protection especially against accidentally stumbling onto those sort of sites.

The multi-user functionality by itself will not do either of those. A third party parental control app may.
A secondary (non-owner) user may install apps using their own Google account so free apps are easy and if they have pocket money there's nothing stopping them from buying a Play Store Gift Card at the mall to buy some paid apps, songs, movies, etc.

Re: Looking to Gift a Nexus 7/Parental Controls
I just got a Nexus 7 for my family and am exploring multiuser support, if you have young children you can probably use this app that I use on my phone before handing it to my kids. [Only registered and activated users can see links. Click Here To Register...], i'm about to test it on my nexus right now but from what I remember is it replaces the launcher so anytime home is pressed it goes to that app which you can configure to allow or block which apps they can get to, one being the play store so even if a game has an advertisement and they click it it will restrict opening the app store....very useful until your kids can figure out how to do math and enter a birth year of over 10 years to unlock the controls.... i'm going to look into funamo toom, anyone else know any other good parental control apps?
