Re: Should I get a protection plan on my Nexus 7
Just get one of those "drop cases" with the thick tire treads all around it.

Re: Should I get a protection plan on my Nexus 7
As I recall the Square Trade 3 year warranty is more than $80. That's, what, about one-third of the cost of a new one? I rarely buy the extensions, and never if it's 20% or more of what I paid for it. Better to spend $20 on a protective case. Heck, after two years it will be an antique anyway. Just my opinion....

Re: Should I get a protection plan on my Nexus 7
I bought a protection plan, and... It's a waste of money. The device is dirt-cheap itself, and I think a lot of protection plans have deductibles.
I would *only* get one if you are incredibly clumsy; take it out of the house without putting a case on it; have small children who like to smash things; have a dog who likes to destroy things; etc. I used it for school every day, and as clumsy as I am, I rarely dropped it (my phone, on the other hand... lol). Unless you place it in a situation where damage is inevitable, I doubt you'll ever need the protection.
Plus, if it somehow gets damaged after a year or two.. you might as well just get the latest model

Re: Should I get a protection plan on my Nexus 7
I work service desk at Walmart so let me tell you about their plans. First off, it isn't a "Walmart" plan, even though we plaster our logo all over the brochure you get if you buy the plan at the register. We actually are agents for a third party (ie some company we're partnered with). If you get the plan you HAVE TO REGISTER IT ONLINE or over the phone for it to cover you. Most cashiers won't tell you this because TBH they probably don't know. I only know because I kept asking co-workers until I got the answers lol. The guy earlier said 30 days, I've always been told you have up to 15 days with the receipt, though that could be in-store. I don't know about buying the warranty online.
Anywho, the warranty actually covers AFTER manufacturer's so if you have 1 year manufacturer + 2 year warranty, you're supposed to get 3 years overall. If you jump through the hoops right, I guess the coverage is decent though I don't know how long it takes to make a claim and such. But if you buy that warranty, make sure to register it. You have to make the claim through the company too. MAKE SURE TO SAVE YOUR RECEIPT. You have to have it to make a claim. Photocopy it because it will fade. You can't bring it into a Walmart (despite what A LOT of cashiers and even higher ups will tell you). I've sat there while managers told customers they could bring their stuff back to our store with the warranty and that info is wrong.
I don't know how much money we make from people buying warranties and not setting them up properly but I'm sure it is well more than whatever our partners end up having to pay out in replacement costs. I'm not saying if the warranty is good or bad (I've never used it myself to be honest), I just know that these are some of the pitfalls with customers that I get yelled at a lot for lol. - 05-09-2013, 12:06 AM #30
Re: Should I get a protection plan on my Nexus 7
Settled down to play some Shadowgun Dead Zone tonight and noticed a small crack in my screen. Upper right hand corner in landscape mode. Don't know how I got it. Called in the protection claim 5 minutes ago. Everything went smooth as project butter. Awaiting prepaid shipping label email in 1-2 business days. I was told I could expect total shipping and repair time to be 7-10 business days. $20 well spent so far.

Re: Should I get a protection plan on my Nexus 7
I had one of those on mine. My four year old grandson had it and it slid out of his hands from knee height. The screen broke. The Seidio Active case really didn't provide any protection.
Now I'm paranoid and have an insurance plan on the new one. The grandson can play with the old one. Parts of the screen still respond to touch. - Yesterday, 05:22 PM #32
