Picked up my N7 today via Wal-Mart. Saved the $15 shipping cost plus if I have a problem somewhere to go....I've read Google direct can be somewhat difficult to deal with. Not sure if I can wait until X-Mas to open though......

Do not wait, open and use immediately. With tech items you are robbing yourself of useful life if you wait. Things move so fast now for devices like these--They become somewhat obsolete in a short period of time. If you spend the next couple weeks learning your N7, by Christmas you'll be ready to treat yourself to some nice paid apps (If you can afford it) or even rooting.
Having said that, I purchased the N7 for our family partly because it will have better staying power than something like Kindle Fire or a Nook. It is a family Christmas present, but we are using it right now.
Ah, the tradition of opening presents on Christmas morning is certainly fun and exciting. But, I'd kind of recommend spoiling Santa's intention and opening it now. Why? Just in case there's some sort of defect (screen lift, bad speaker, dead pixels, etc.). These defects aren't prevalent, despite the multiple complaints in the forum, but they do happen. It might be better to do the inspection now so that you can do a quick exchange before the return period at Walmart ends, or at least so you don't have your deal with long return lines after Christmas.Quote:
