Similarity to iOS?

hey everyone, i come from apple products, and was just wondering, if i get a message of notification, and my device is in sleep mode, does it turn on and show the message/notification like an Ipod Touch would? i really like this feature on the ipod, and hope it is universal

what you mean like on ipod touch? a pop out message? There are application that can display a pop out messages.

like when i text someone, and then lock the ipod, so the screen is black. then when they text me, it awakens itself automatically to the lockscreen, and displays the text, im attempting to put an image-
