Hi all,

I know this is last minute, but my parents always do their shopping on Christmas eve. They are looking at buying my brother (14) a tablet. Either the fire hd or nexus 7. I know the fire hd has many ways to keep kids from using it like they aren't supposed to (time limits, content filters, etc.) Is the nexus just as easy, or do they have these options? Over all, what would you suggest for a early teenager, but you also want to make sure they don't get into stuff they shouldn't? thanks.

Kindle Fire most likely has more content controls than the N7. Both are great tablets.

The nexus has true Android, the fire is limited. Is he an android enthusiast?

Any kid who can get online with a device can get into trouble or see inappropriate content if not properly monitored.

One thing is for sure, there is definitely less to do with Kindle Fire.

Read the reviews, there is no contest. The nexus 7 is the best small tablet on the market right now. Unless your family is deep into Amazon Prime or your brother plans on using his tablet primarily for shooting pictures, this is really a no brainer.

DONOT buy a Kindle. its too locked down. buy nexus 7.

Kindle is too restricted, and no parental control software is a replacement for good parenting...

They ended up getting the nexus 7. Thanks everyone for the advice. Now I'm going to see if he'll "let me set it up for him..."
