Re: Magnetic closure on Nexus 7 Tablet case - could this damage
It looks like your Nexus 7 is ruined. I'd attempt to exchange your N7 or just suck it up and buy another N7

Re: Magnetic closure on Nexus 7 Tablet case - could this damage
I've been using a magnetic case with my Nexus 7 since I got it in July and I have had absolutely no problems with it. Why would so many case makers make magnetic cases if it would cause damage to the device? I wouldn't worry about it.

Re: Magnetic closure on Nexus 7 Tablet case - could this damage
I've had a case with a magnetic cover for six months now and have had no problems with it. The Nexus 7 is designed to work with the magnet to go into sleep mode automatically when you close the cover and wake up when you open it. So your case should be perfectly safe.
I apologize for these other posters. I know it's hard to tell, but they're being funny.

Re: Magnetic closure on Nexus 7 Tablet case - could this damage
Yes, i was making a joke.
actually, a strong enough magnetic field combined with movement of the N7 thru that field CAN cause data loss and even damage electronics but it does require a STRONG magnet.
Go ahead and use the case but if you notice data loss or program crashes, it COULD be from a magnet but it is unlikely. You are more likely to damage the N7 by accidentally discharging static electricity into the microUSB port when connecting your cable, etc. (so always touch something conductive to discharge your spark 1st, esp if you expect discharges !!! - 01-12-2013, 03:50 AM #9
Re: Magnetic closure on Nexus 7 Tablet case - could this damage
I think the problem is with the color pink and not the magnet.

Re: Magnetic closure on Nexus 7 Tablet case - could this damage
I think some posters are confusing "magnet closure" for the magnet hidden in the case cover near the pogo pins that put the device to sleep.
I suspect OP is asking about the purse-style magnetic closure on the cover. I should think it's not hurting, but then if it was really, really cheap, no telling how careful the maker was to ensure the magnet was save for a digital device. Since the case has a craptastic fitting method (silly elastic straps, one probably covering the power button), I'd junk it and get something with a bit more cachet and approval on the forums. I have a that was cheap, and built tough, works great. The lid has a very light magnet closure that just holds the lid to the tablet unless I give it a slight "lift"; it also has the "sleep/wake" magnet in the cover. And it is very easy to remove and insert the N7 into the case depending on where i am. I really like it for work. (I don't think rooCase offers pink, but they do offer a nice red cover.
)
Others have lauded the Poetic cases (I just bought two for my Nexus 4, and they're very good VFM). Check out the Nexus 7 Accessories forum for other ideas. (Sent by accident, not using the Android Central app

Re: Magnetic closure on Nexus 7 Tablet case - could this damage
I use one without a problem (months now) but I have read of people having problems with the built-in compass. Not surprising but I can't attest to this personally as I haven't used my on-board compass.
