Re: What are some cool things to do with a rooted Nexus 7?
more info needed there Chaos....
are you rooted, with a custom ROM ? Did it work properly after you rebooted ? Which version was it ?
It's important to realize this is a NEW (Dec release) app and like anything new, bugs have to be worked out...but in any case, if it doesn't work for you, that does not mean it doesn't work for everybody.
Since they are the number one blocker for Windows, I expect the bugs WILL be worked out. In any case, the point was that you don't need to be rooted to block ads and that is certainly the case even if you didn't like the way it worked or didn't work. - 01-27-2013, 07:44 PM #12
Re: What are some cool things to do with a rooted Nexus 7?
But I have to say that all adblock apps that require root are much better than Adblock plus. When I used adblock plus (before I rooted my nexus 7) I would frequently get empty spaces in a page where ads used to be, and it wouldn't always block all the ads. Not to mention the annoying persistent notification. Since I have rooted my nexus 7 and installed AdAway that requires root I have had absolutely no problem and I haven't seen an ad in weeks.

Re: What are some cool things to do with a rooted Nexus 7?
That all sounds reasonable, celliott. There is always room for improvement and being able to work better and more flexibly with a rooted OS should surprise nobody.
Just as Nexus Media Importer has even MORE SERIOUS limitations when compared to Stickmount, it does allow some access to flash drives even if only thru a piped read only interface.
But none of this negates the fact that adblock plus does work unrooted, and given the number of recent revisions, I expect versions with better functionality will arrive in due course, keeping in mind that unrooted access means limitations. - 01-27-2013, 09:48 PM #14Android is a tune up sports car with custom interior, sound system, and IOS is a stock model benz
