Importing email contacts?
I'm sure it's been asked and answered, but I can't find it :(
My wife has a new Nexus 7. Her email account is an old Freeserve webmail account, which is now supported by Orange, (UK). On her laptop she uses Mozilla Thunderbird, which is where all her email addresses are stored.
She is using the native email app on the Nexus and we were surprised when her contacts didn't appear when starting to type an email address.
But then I realise that the contacts are in Thuderbird, rather than being stored on the web. I guess, even if they were stored on the web they wouldn't appear.
I'm guessing we could export the addresses from Thunderbird as a .csv file, or similar. Could this then be imported to the Nexus and used in the email app.
If so, would it be possible to sync etween the laptop version of Thunderbird, and the email app on the Nexus....... Or is there an app that would do it for her?
Many Thanks
Richard
Re: Importing email contacts?
Hello,
I'm not sure about your final line about syncing the laptop version of Thunderbird and email on the Nexus but I can tell you that your idea of exporting the Thunderbird as .csv file or similar is the perfect way to import the contacts into her Gmail account associated with her Nexus.
Once you obtain the exported contacts on file you can place that on your Nexus and thru the People/Settings to import the file or you can do it via Desktop by logging into her Gmail account and doing it online.
Re: Importing email contacts?
I would definitely suggest that you put the contacts into the gmail account. This way they'll live online and always be backed up, and appear on the N7, or any android device, automatically.

Re: Importing email contacts?
Thanks to both - reassuring to know I was on the right track..... worked a treat by exporting to a .csv file, then importing that into google on the laptop. I guess I was hoping for an easy way to sync, but didnt really expect one :)
The most difficult thing was logging in, as she had forgotten her password - anyway - we sorted that with a new password and, as if by magic, the contacts are on her Nexus and available in the Freeserve account.
I cant see how they could be synced with Thunderbird, unless there was an app on the laptop to sync Thuderbird with Google - cant see that happening somehow.
Thanks again for the help
Richard
