Re: Email app question
It's not just you... I don't see a way to delete multiple emails in the Gmail app either. I can select multiple emails. But there doesn't appear to be a way to delete them once selected.
I guess I've never had a reason to delete multiple emails from my trash in the Gmail app. But it is very strange that this function appears to be missing though! - 02-23-2013, 06:18 AM #3
Re: Email app question
Yeah. That is weird. It only seems to be in the trash folder too. The other strange thing that is missing in this app is the ability to set a default sending account. I don't know how many emails I sent from wrong accounts before I realized that.

Re: Email app question
I dont think your missing anything and as far as I know there is no way to select all, delete all. They are also missing the delete forever option you get if you access your email through a browser. They need to add that instead of expecting someone to wait 30 days for their email to auto delete from trash.

Re: Email app question
Yes, the mobile Gmail app is not as full featured as the desktop browser version. On the other hand, it's better than the version from 6 months ago. And that version was better than the version from 6 months before that, etc. So I have no doubt that these features will be added in future updates. In the meantime, you can use the mobile version in the Chrome browser. It allows you to select multiple items in the Trash folder, and delete them all at once. It's still not as full featured as the desktop browser version, but it's better than nothing.

Re: Email app question
True, but you have to wonder how they manage to miss such basic operations from the beginning. For instance, in the Google calendar app, you can't jump to a date. And for a while, in the Yahoo mail app, you couldn't reply all.

Re: Email app question
They may be basic operations, but to me it's all magic! Its hard to believe the things we can do with this little slab of plastic and glass, things that were just a fantasy a few years ago. So I tend to temper my complaints a bit when it comes to new technology features.
Even with very smart programmers and software engineers developing these apps, having every feature available isn't something that can necessarily happen quickly. They have to choose where to put their development efforts, but those choices are being made at a higher, corporate level. So, could they add some of these missing functions? I'm sure they could if that's where they wanted to put their resources. But obviously, they've decided to make other enhancements first.
Besides, if you could do everything as easily in the app as on the desktop version of Gmail, how would they get you to see all the wonderful ads that show up on the desktop version? You know, getting "scroogled", as Microsoft calls it! That may be the real reason for the somewhat limited feature set of the Gmail app. They want you on the desktop to deal with more specific email needs, so that they get the ad exposure and can monetize Gmail. After all, nothing is really free. And to tell you the truth, I think I'd rather have those limits on the feature set than to suddenly have a bunch of Scroogle ads show up in the Gmail app. - 02-23-2013, 01:41 PM #8
