I just realized I don't have a camera app. I know I don't have a back camera but shouldn't I still have the app for the front camera? I'm fully stock and unrooted, no mods (yet).

I have no idea why people are taking pics with a tablet, lol

It's just for quick, personal snapshots, I guess....
The camera on the Nexus 7 is horrid, but I suppose it's better than nothing. 8'I
yea, the camera on the N7 isn't even worth taking a picture with.
Same reason they do it with a phone?Quote:

I agree, why put the camera there without the app?

The camera on the N7 is only really for video chatting. Have you seen stills from the N7? about the same quality as my Motorola razr from 2004.
I just find taking pics with a 7 or 10 inch device to be both ridiculous and embarrassing, lolQuote:

It just looks ridiculous, but that's just me

I agree, it does look silly and awkward. I saw someone with an iPad taking a picture of the Golden Gate Bridge recently (one of those picture postcard views, with San Francisco and the bay in the background, and the bridge in the foreground) and cringed. I thought to myself, "Please use a real camera for such a magnificent shot." But who am I to judge? As you implied, to each his own.Quote:

With that said, and despite the poor quality of the camera and Google's intent that it simply be used for video calls, they still should have included the camera app. Instead, people scratched their heads about it and had to do some research to realize they had to download a 3rd party app. I say this because there are plenty of reasons for a camera on a tablet or phone besides taking photos of beautiful landmarks. This is why the N7 also needs a rear camera (yes, the old rear camera on the Nexus 7 debate).
The reason for having a rear camera on the N7 is not for taking photographs or even snapping pics of friends at a party (though if the latter is your thing, then go for it). It's to:
- make video calls more versatile when trying to show the caller a document or something other than yourself
- make scanning a document or QR code or whatever easier
- allow the use of artificial reality views utilized by some games, as well as some astronomy and aviation apps (FlightRadar24 let's you point the camera at the sky to identify specific airplane flights - kind of hard to do with a front camera only)
- make it easier or even possible to take a picture when using some apps, like ebay, that let you take a picture from within the app to use when creating a listing (instead of taking a photo with a different device and importing it to the N7)
- allow some apps to be listed as compatible with the N7 in the Play Store, because they have a requirement for a rear camera (yes, can often download from other app stores, and developers should update their apps, but adding a rear camera fixes the problem for all)
- Oh look, my cat is hanging from the ceiling and cleaning her private parts! This will be great to take a quick snapshot since she'll drop any second now. Phone is in other room, real camera is who knows where, but I have N7 in hand, ready to snap and post to Buttbook or Guzzle+ or whatever. But, damn, every time I point the camera and try to see the shot I'm getting, my face is in the way! Too late, cat dropped and private parts are now clean. Sure wish my Nexus 7 had a rear camera!
Okay, none of these reasons are imperative, and we'll all survive without a rear camera on our Nexus 7s. Some users might never utilize a rear camera (or even the front camera) based on how they use their device. But for some of us it would be convenient, not as a substitute for that magnificent photographic instrument known as a telephone, but to supplement and enhance the usage of our beloved N7 in the ways described above, especially the hanging cat scenario.
My young grandchildren are fascinated with the camera. They can see themselves as we take pictures. Both the 2 and 4 year olds think it's hilarious.Quote:

i'm not trying to do a professional photoshoot for cosmo with the camera but I do like to take a snapshot from time to time. I didn't think people would take it so personally and have so many negative and rash comments about why a person would want to use the camera :( I did find something that works for me tho.
I use (camera launcher for nexus 7) from the play store. I would not worry about nay sayers. It's you n7 after all. Do as you please with it.

Here is a picture of my Nexus 4 taken with the Nexus 7 using the front facing camera and the camera launcher app I had to get from the Play store:

Also, you can use Skype for video conferencing, but if you want to record a video message, you need the camera launcher.

In addition to Camera Launcher for Nexus 7, there is Camera JB+. I don't remember if it is a paid app or free.

A total dummy here. Took some trial snaps using camera jb+ , but I can't get rid of them? Can't even find them using file manager, but they are there as an album when I open gallery, but can't find a delete option. Any pointers appreciated.

Many people carry their phones every waking hour. The Nexus 4 and iPhone are sized similar to a digital point-and-shoot camera.Quote:

I agree that was a mistake. Even cheap laptops and netbooks with low-res webcams usually have an app to cap video/pics locally.Quote:

If I saw someone taking vacation snapshots with their laptop webcam I would be as :-! as if they were doing it with a tablet, but ultimately it doesn't hurt me so whatevs.
Long press on the pic should give you the menu to do it.Quote:

Thanks, tried that but doesnt seem to do anything.
I open the picture, press the three bars in the upper right corner. One of the choices in the drop down is delete.
You might like the way QuikPic, available free in Playstore, works better than Gallery.
From my N7 or BBPB or HPTP or HP Laptop
That is the problem. I open the photo, then the three bars, and get the photo editing options, but not delete option.Quote:

I really wish mine had a rear camera. I can't deposit checks into my banking account. I have to use my phone or iPad.Quote:

I think you maybe tried this. In the grid view if you press and hold a picture does a trash can appear at the top of the screen? Select it to delete. Is your Gallery app up to date? Just wondering.Quote:
