I have been able to perform a voice search by tapping the little mic button, but can't get it to enable a search by speaking Google. Anyone else have this issue? Do I need to enable something first.

I had the same issue and solved it by switching my language settings back to (I think) American English. No idea how it got changed.

Got to settings>language & input>voice search>Hot word detection. Make sure hot word detection is selected.

Nope. Hard reset or call in for some help.

I think it only works within Google Now.

it only works from google Now. you are not trying to do it from search bar are you?

Yes I was trying to do this on the home screen, just tried it on the google now, and all works great, doh.
