Moving Videos to device

I have a Google Nexus 7 and am trying to move videos over from my computer to my tablet. When I try to do it, Windows Explorer crashes. (I tried moving music over and it worked) I'm thinking I need to convert the tv show first. What format should I convert it to? I just downloaded the MX Player because I read that's helpful

Just load them to your Google account via the TV & videos section/app.
Should work without anything crashing.
Also: Google chrome.

TV seems support MPEG 1 or MPEG 2.Why not use USB to transfer the videos?
