This is my first time purchasing an unlocked phone, so now that I have my Pixel, what do I need to do to obtain a new sim card from my carrier (ATT)? My current phone uses the bigger size sim card so I won't be able to transfer it to the Pixel. Do I just go into any store and ask for a new one? Do they charge you for this? How exactly does this process work? I take it they have to activate the sim card with my current number. If this is the case, does my old sim card just cease to function all together? The reason I ask is, in the event something were to happen to my Pixel I'd ideally like to have my current phone as a back up but if the old sim card just ceases to function, then I'd have to go back to my carrier and get a standard size one?

Also, I take it I'd have to create a new APN on the Pixel once the sim card is in.

Get a new SIM card from your carrier and get your number transferred to it.
Then, purchase a SIM card adaptor kit (there's plenty of choice, online) in case you'll need to put your new SIM into your backup phone.
