Pixel with Verizon + Message Not Reading Messages on Ford Sync

I just got a new Pixel XL from Verizon and installed Verizon's Message +. On my previous phone, a Galaxy S-5 with Android 6.0.1, all new text messages would be read to me via the Ford Sync built into the car radio. With the Pixel, this does not happen. Is there a way to get this working again?

You could try setting the Google Messenger to the default SMS app and see if that works.
That way you can isolate if it just isn't working at all or if it is a Verizon Messages issue.
