how to disable auto-update from google play store, when disabling doesn't work?

hello there, i have a question:

- how do i disable the auto-updating of apps from the google play store, when
i already went to settings and disabled it, but it keeps on auto-updating still?

i suspect my android was hacked some weeks ago, so, in case, can this still be the
work of the same or, a different loser? Or is it 'normal' 'work' of the google play
store? Or is there another button to disable the auto-updating of apps?
