I was reading about the new data only sim you can soon add on your plan to use on a tablet or other device. I wondered if I were to get a tmobile hotspot device, if you could pop that sim card in from project fi and it would allow a hotspot device? If so, you can get some of the older 4g tmobile hotspots for $15-$20 on ebay. Then I could keep the hotspot in my car as a dedicated hotspot for my old nexus 7 2012 I use as a dedicated gps/mp3 player.

I plan on ordering the sim regardless so I have it in my possession since its free and I could use it eventually on a device or old spare phone.

I'm not real familiar with t-mobile hotspots, but I believe from searching it looks like some take sim cards. Guess its a matter of compatibility etc. Surely once the cards are in the wild, we'll know more.

From what I read, the data only SIMs will not allow a mobile hotspot. Of course, that is using it in a tablet, so I'm not sure what would happen in a Hotspot device.

Also, you can order the data only SIMs now.
