Things Google *didn't* talk about?
- does ICS have hw acceleration?
- does it have any battery life improvements?
- how much of the camera lag reduction is due to software vs the sensor
Face unlock
- how much battery does it use
- how long does it take? A pattern unlock is very fast to enter and instant
- can it be spoofed by a picture? or a video?
- is ICS going to unify memory? no more worrying about partition sizes?
- what happens on phones with hw buttons? What are the min hw requirements to run ICS?
- Is ICS faster? - 10-18-2011, 11:37 PM #2

Re: Things Google *didn't* talk about?
They didn't talk about that Quick Settings button I saw in the notification shade. Is it just volume? Can I adjust brightness? Can I toggle wifi? QUESTIONS MUST BE ANSWERED!

Re: Things Google *didn't* talk about?
There was one thing that bothered me, When they mentioned the thickness on stage the screen said 8.94mm HSPA+. Im wondering how much thicker the LTE version will be? Anyone else see this?
Also not a peep about battery life. Not even a mention. That worries me. - 10-18-2011, 11:54 PM #10
Re: Things Google *didn't* talk about?
Yup! I'm hoping for that.
I think that there is still a lot to this phone. Remember that during this announcement, the companies have an agenda to show off what THEY feel is important, but there really is much more going on. Things WE care about that the general public wouldn't necessarily need to hear.
I think that as stuff begins to trickle in and reviews, we will see that this phone really is the one to get right now. People are complaining about numbers right now...1.2ghz and not 1.5ghz....5MP and not 8MP, but those are just small increases. ICS probably handles the HW inside the GS quite well. The HW inside this GS is optimized for the ICS experience.
And again, I can't emphasize this enough, once new Kernels and themes...and ROMs start coming out for this bad boy, we will see a good phone become even better. - 10-19-2011, 12:01 AM #11
Re: Things Google *didn't* talk about?
I didn't like how the presentation lacked any carrier information.
Also, there appears to be some mystery surrounding the LTE version that feels bothersome. I recall a lot of the measurements, specs, etc. all carried a disclaimer saying that they don't apply to the LTE version of the phone.
...what are the specs for the LTE version then, why just leave that out? - 10-19-2011, 12:05 AM #12

Re: Things Google *didn't* talk about?
How do you not ask specifically if Samsung's money device right now, SGSII that just came to the states will see ICS?

Re: Things Google *didn't* talk about?
I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about Samsung making an LTE device that is too thick. Like Apple, Samsung has been good about keeping their devices small and neat. That has been one of their biggest selling points over the past 18 months or so.

Re: Things Google *didn't* talk about?
They did talk about this (quite a bit). And yes it does.
They spoke only via implications about this, so no idea.
We'll find out when it hits the Nexus S.
- next to none. The front facing camera doesn't use much battery and...
- in the demonstration video, it noted the face and unlocked in about 1.5 seconds.
- it can likely be spoofed by a picture but not sure
Not sure, we'll have to wait and see.
It adjusts based on the device. So for the Nexus S, it'll still use the capacitive buttons and hide the on-screen buttons by default.
It is faster because of GPU acceleration. Google said any device currently running 2.3 should be able to handle ICS.
